Dear Families,
Math Games Afternoon
On Monday afternoon we held our first Maths Games afternoon at Galilee. It was wonderful to see so many students and families filling our classrooms and enjoying an afternoon of maths games together. The games were designed to build important mathematical skills, including number sense, fluency, problem solving, reasoning and strategy.
A big thank you to all the families who attended and spent the afternoon playing and learning maths with their children. It was fantastic to see so much enthusiasm, laughter and engagement throughout the afternoon.
Thank you also to our teachers who put so much time and effort into organising and running the event. We hope everyone who attended had a wonderful time and has taken home the booklet of maths games to continue the fun and learning at home!
100 Days of Prep
Last week, we celebrated a very special milestone with our Prep students and their families — 100 days of school!
To mark the occasion, our Preps dressed up with the theme of ‘100’, with many choosing to come dressed as 100-year-olds. They also took part in lots of fun activities throughout the day, all centred around the number 100.
Congratulations to our Prep students and their families on reaching this wonderful milestone. In just 100 days, they have already achieved so much and settled into school life beautifully. We look forward to watching them continue to learn, grow and thrive as they make their way through their primary school years.
Year 3–6 Athletics Day
Last week, our Year 3–6 students walked to Lakeside Stadium for our Galilee House Athletics Day. We were very lucky to have perfect weather for the event, making it a fantastic day for everyone.
Students competed for their House in a range of athletic events, including sprints, hurdles, high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put and discus. We were incredibly proud of the way our students approached each event, giving everything their best and showing wonderful sportsmanship throughout the day. It was fantastic to see students cheering each other on and celebrating each other’s achievements.
A huge thank you to the many parent volunteers who came along to help with marshalling, measuring and running the different events. Your support made such a difference and, without our wonderful parent volunteers, days like this simply would not be possible.
A very special thank you to our PE teacher, Charlotte Drake, for the incredible amount of work she put into organising and running the day. Charlotte spent many weeks preparing the students during PE lessons, teaching them the different events and making sure everything was ready for the day. Her organisation and hard work ensured the day ran so smoothly. Thank you also to all of our staff who supported the students and helped run the events throughout the day.
Following the House Athletics Day, the Galilee Athletics Team was selected based on student results. These students will represent Galilee at the Dendy Athletics Carnival next Friday. We wish them all the very best and look forward to cheering them on!
Year 3&4 Hooptime
Earlier this week a select group of students represented Galilee at the Year 3/4 Hooptime Basketball Competition at MSAC. They did an exceptional job, with all making it to the finals. Two teams won their division and will progress to regional competitions in 6 weeks times. This is an outstanding achievement. Bullying No Way Week
This week, our school community has been getting behind Bullying No Way! Week, with students taking part in a range of discussions and activities focused on kindness, respect, inclusion and standing up for one another.
This year’s theme, ‘Small Acts, Big Impact’, is a wonderful reminder that even the smallest actions can make a big difference. A kind word, including someone in a game, noticing when someone might need a friend or speaking up when something isn’t right can all help to create a safe and respectful school community.
Throughout the week, students have been learning about what bullying is, how to recognise it and what they can do if they experience or see it. They have explored ways to respond safely, seek help from trusted adults and be an upstander by supporting others and speaking up when something isn’t right.
It has been a great opportunity to reinforce our whole-school values and remind our students that we all have a role to play in making Galilee a kind, inclusive and respectful place. Small acts really can have a big impact!
2027 Prep Transition Session
Our first 2027 Prep Transition Session took place last Friday, and it was wonderful to welcome our newest students to Galilee!
The morning was a great opportunity for our future Preps to become familiar with our school, meet their teachers and begin to feel connected, safe and happy at Galilee. We are very excited to welcome 62 new Prep students across three classes next year.
It was lovely to meet them all and see them exploring the school, joining in activities and getting a little taste of what school will be like next year. A big thank you to our Prep teachers for organising and running such a fun and welcoming morning for the students.
We are already looking forward to welcoming them back for our next Transition Session in a few weeks!
School Closure Day- Tomorrow
A reminder that we have a School Closure Day tomorrow, Friday 21st August, and students will not attend school.
The day has been allocated as a time-in-lieu day for staff. Time in lieu recognises the additional hours that teachers and staff work throughout the year outside of their regular school hours. At Galilee, this includes attending camps, out-of-hours school events and activities, meetings and other school commitments.
TheirCare will be open and operating all day tomorrow for families who require care. If you intend to use the program, please remember to book your child/children in through the TheirCare website.
Book Week
Get the costumes ready — Book Week is almost here! Next week, we will be celebrating our love of reading with a fun-filled week of books, stories, characters and activities.
We have lots planned for the week:
Monday – Book Week Parade
Join us in the stadium at 8:55am for our Book Week Parade. Students are invited to come dressed as their favourite character from a book. We can’t wait to see all the wonderful costumes.
Tuesday – Author and Illustrator Visit
We are very excited to welcome Chris Kennett to Galilee. Chris will be visiting all classes to share his work and inspire our students. If you have any of his books at home, feel free to bring them along — Chris will be happy to sign them.
Wednesday – Classroom Activities
Students will take part in a range of fun Book Week activities in their classrooms, bringing some of their favourite books and stories to life.
Thursday – Book Swap
We are holding a Book Swap! If you have any good-quality children’s books at home that your family has finished with, we would love you to donate them to our Book Swap. This is a great way to give a much-loved book a new home and encourage children to discover new stories.
Friday – Book Week Assembly
Our Friday Assembly will be held in the stadium at 8:55am. Our awards will have a reading focus, and we will also include some extra Book Week celebrations.
We are looking forward to a wonderful week celebrating the joy of reading and sharing our love of books with our Galilee community!
Father’s Day Celebrations and Footy Colours Day at Galilee
We are looking forward to celebrating the wonderful dads, grandads and father figures in our Galilee community with a special Father’s Day morning on Friday 4 September.
We will start the day with a Father’s Day Breakfast from 7:45am on the playground. All students, dads, grandads and father figures are warmly invited to join us for a bacon and egg roll for breakfast. Bacon and egg rolls and a drink will cost $5. Card or cash accepted (exact change please).
Following breakfast, we will head into the stadium for a special assembly celebrating the important fathers and father-like figures in our students’ lives.
To celebrate the upcoming AFL finals, students are encouraged to wear their favourite footy colours on the day. They will also take part in a special footy session during their extra sport.
It promises to be a fun morning and a wonderful opportunity to come together as a school community and celebrate the special people who support and care for our students.
