Celebrating our Volunteers

Our community is blessed beyond measure by the dedicated contribution from our incredible parent volunteers! From canteen to working bees, classrooms to second-hand uniform shop, camp support to event décor, our volunteers share countless hours of their time to support the teaching and learning and community of Donvale Christian College.

In celebration of National Volunteer Week, we want to honour and say thank you to every one of our precious volunteers - your gift of service to our college is valued and applauded!

We asked our staff to nominate their stand-out volunteers, which proved a hard task as there are simply so many to select from! We are thrilled to highlight FIVE of our amazing DCC volunteers with you below.

Stay tuned for the announcement of our DCC Volunteer of the Year!

Angie Ang

- a true ray of sunshine in our classrooms.

As a classroom helper in one of our primary classes, Angie quickly became an essential part of the class culture. She learned every parent’s name, connected with families in multiple  languages, and brought warmth and joy to the classroom environment. Her commitment to  creating a space where every parent felt welcomed and included has been an enormous blessing to the whole community.

On Grandparents Day, Angie generously offered to translate in both Cantonese and Mandarin for grandparents who may have otherwise struggled with English. Her willingness to step in ensured that every family could fully participate and feel valued.

Teachers, students, parents and all of us at DCC are deeply grateful for Angie’s passionate involvement and the heart she brings to everything she does.

Thank you, Angie — you are a complete delight!

Eric Lau

— an exceptional DCC dad whose dedication brings a new depth to parent partnership at our college.

With his gentle nature and genuine smile, Eric faithfully serves across countless events and initiatives that strengthen connection and support within our parent community. He is a committed helper in our Chinese classes across senior primary, where he decorates classrooms, laminates posters, and provides one‑on‑one support to students who may be finding the language challenging. His presence is an outstanding blessing to both students and teachers.

As the only current male member of our FOD parent committee, Eric ensures that inclusion and connection remain central to their planning. He is one of our Class Reps, attends camps and excursions, is present at every Dads’ or parent event, always smiling, always encouraging, and always the first to raise his hand when help is needed. If you haven’t met him yet, you’re missing out.

We are deeply grateful for Eric and the valuable contribution he makes to helping our college community thrive.

Thank you, Eric — you are one in a million.

Jennie Dong

— a faithful, servant‑hearted DCC mum.

Jennie has blessed our college community by faithfully serving in our canteen for over 10 years. Her long‑standing commitment to this vital service has been a tremendous encouragement to the entire canteen team.

With her happy, familiar smile and super‑efficient hands, Jennie serves our students as they come for their tasty treats, helping the canteen run smoothly and warmly expressing her love for Donvale in every shift. She brings kindness, patience, diligence and a friendly nature to everything she does.

The canteen team is deeply blessed by Jennie’s involvement — and so are all of us at DCC.

Join us in celebrating the heartfelt commitment of this wonderful volunteer.

Jennie, thank you for being so wonderful!

TJ Spence

Our college has been deeply blessed by TJ’s enormous personal contribution over many years. Her self‑sacrificial service has had a wide and lasting impact across the school, and her warm‑hearted presence is appreciated by all who know her.

As a valued member of Friends of Donvale, TJ faithfully coordinates and supports our massive Class Reps project year after year — a role many families recognise through her helpful WhatsApp announcements. Her organisation, commitment and care help keep our parent community connected and supported.

TJ also steps up to volunteer at Senior Secondary events when her children are in these year levels, bringing her passion for event management, her eye for detail, and her fabulous ideas for décor, gifts and activities. Beyond her practical skills, TJ is a natural gatherer of people — a lover of community and an encourager of connection.

We simply adore TJ and feel privileged to walk alongside her as part of our DCC family. If you haven’t met her yet, she’s the one with the beautiful smile.

Thank you, TJ — your spark keeps us alight.

Carolyn Patten

— a truly treasured member of our DCC community.

Despite running a busy home and work life with five children, Carolyn selflessly gives her time to reunite lost property with its rightful owners — a task that brings enormous relief to students and parents alike. Her work involves sorting through dirty clothing, deciphering faded name labels, folding, tidying, organising, and then trekking across campus to deliver items back to classrooms.

It’s a role many would shy away from, yet Carolyn approaches it with humility, grace and a beautiful smile every time. Her gentle nature and servant‑hearted spirit make her a joy to have around, and her contribution makes a genuine difference to the daily life of our school.

Please join us in offering Carolyn a giant T H A N K Y O U from our whole community.

Thank you, Carolyn — you are a treasure.
