House Captains

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Next week we have District and Inter School Sports, along with lots of other exciting activities happening. Students find these events really fun and competitive.

In Interschool Sports, students compete against other schools. Sometimes we travel by bus, but this year is a little different—we will be walking to the venue instead. Walking will give students a great warm-up before they play. Some of the sports include netball, footy, and T-ball.

We are all looking forward to a great week!

Auslan Leaders

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are very sad to share that our wonderful Auslan teacher, Miss Thomas, will be leaving our school. She will be greatly missed by all of us! However, we are also excited to welcome new teachers. For the next few weeks, Miss Esla will be teaching Auslan, and then Miss Eason will be taking over.

This term, Auslan Club will be a little bit different. Rooney and Lily (the Auslan Leaders) will be helping to run the club. We will be playing lots of fun games, including some that you might already know from Auslan classes.

We make announcements every Tuesday to remind students when and where Auslan Club is happening. A helpful website we use is Signbank, which helps us learn new signs we might not know.

Here is what different year levels have been learning:

  • The 5/6s have been learning about the differences between Auslan and English.
  • The 3/4s have also been learning about how Auslan is different from English.
  • The 1/2s have been learning about families.
  • The Preps have been learning about colours and animals.

That concludes this month’s newsletter. Stay tuned for next month’s update!

Art Leaders

The Art Leaders are going to help with the upcoming mural on the blue rebound wall and make sure that the artwork is appropriate.

The Art Leaders will also bring some pens for the Mindfulness Club so everybody gets to use the colours they would like.

This term, we are learning about Vincent van Gogh. He is an artist we are studying, and he painted The Starry Night. He also liked to use sunflowers in his artwork.

In Music, we are learning about the band Gorillaz, and we are creating our own characters in our own style, naming them, and showing them to Mrs Jones.

Environmental Leaders

Over the holidays, Ms McManus came into The Patch to add a worm farm to help make our gardens healthy and happy. A new feature in the classrooms will be a compost bin, which we can use for the garden and the worm farm.

Last term, all the houses planted bee-friendly flowers to attract more bees so they can pollinate and help keep the plants alive. The Environmental Leaders also help with recycling, so make sure you fill up the recycling bins in your classroom!

Library Leaders

New Bookmarks For The Library

New bookmarks have been given to the library! These can be handed out at Library Club on Thursdays. When a student receives a bookmark, they may choose which one they would like. You can receive one for showing the school values of Learner At The Center, Diversity and  Social Nature Of Learning.

Play Leaders

Hello! We have lots to tell you today. Some students say it’s really exciting, and others say, “I know that game everyone’s been talking about!” The game is called GaGa. The GaGa Pit has just been built on the oval. It’s a really fun game that uses skill, agility, quick reflexes, hand-eye coordination and strategic thinking.

Play Leader Awards: Students show our school values when they join in play leader games. We give out awards at assembly, so remember to show good sportsmanship!

Sandpit Toys: Every day, the play leaders put out toys for students to use in the sandpit. It is the play leaders’ responsibility to bring them out. Please do not take the toys out of the sandpit, because they are only for sandpit play. Also, please use the toys carefully—we don’t want them to break. Thank you for reading the sandpit section!

New Game: Yoshi is a new play leader game! Here’s how to play:

First, split into two even teams. You need a space like a basketball court with two sides. Each team stands on their side in the squares around the basketball ring.

If you go onto the other team’s side, they can tag you—but you can’t tag them. If you get tagged, someone from your team has to gently hold your shirt and bring you back to your side. They can’t be tagged while helping you.

If someone yells “Yoshi!”, no one can tag. If you were tagged, you can run. Everyone has to try and get back to their team’s square. The first team to get all their players into their square wins!

Thanks for reading!
