AFLW - Equal Opportunity Competition

Monday 6th May 2024

It was an awesome day at Highett Reserve for the annual Equal Opportunity AFLW competition. We had a fantastic group of Year 8, 9 and 10 girls who took part in the intermediate competition. From the first bounce, it was clear that we had an advantage on our opposition teams. Experienced footballers from our Year 10 cohort led the way in the centre providing Mordialloc with repeated forward entries, with our first goal being kicked within 30 seconds of the first bounce. Highlights for the day include Rhianna Pool (Year 10) having plenty of the ball, amassing Erin Phillips-style numbers in the midfield, Charlie Dodds-Vines and Bella Knox and their goal kicking prowess and the half back domination of Metaiah Iosefo and Monika Bily.

Game 1 vs Brighton                 1.1.7 vs 5.6.36

Game 2 vs Beaumaris             0.0.0 vs 7.8.49

Game 3 vs Sandringham        2.2.14 vs 4.7.30

Grand Final vs Bentleigh        Half time, 18 v 12

                                                       Full time, 29 v 18

It was a fantastic performance by all involved, with every player on the field playing an integral role in our success. A big shout out to our Year 8 girls Holly Gebbing, Remi Sneddon and Luna Kovac who filled in on the day. The Year 8s played a very important role for us in the midfield and up forward and looked right at home against their older much more experienced peers. Congratulations to the girls and we look forward to the Southern Metropolitan Regional Finals on Thursday July 25.
