Rugby

On Wednesday the 11th of June Our Rugby Academy students took on Academy Movement counterparts Narre Warren in a double header at Blackwood Drive Reserve Melton South. The two games were close encounters featuring some awesome gameplay, big hits and some exemplary sportsmanship from both teams. The Under 15 Girls game started with Narre taking a small lead and showcased a good mix of fast feet and strong ball carriers. MSC were able to fight back to take the win 33 points to 24. The girls played their first game together and impressed with their grit in defence and fitness levels finishing the game with no subs.

The Under 18 boys followed the hotly contested Girl’s game with a very skilful and physical encounter. On the back of some resilient defence Melton Boys were able to come away with a hard-fought victory. Narre Warren started strong taking an early penalty kick off the back of some ill discipline and penalties conceded by Melton. However, are 18’s team were able to hold strong in defence and show great discipline with the ball in hand to score some silky tries on the back of strong defence and good, disciplined structure. The defensive effort was very impressive as Narre continued to press the try line, however working together and demonstrating strong resilience our team was able to continue to turn the Narre Warren attack away finishing the game with a 27-3 victory.

We would like to thank all the parents and supporters who were able to come and show their support to the school teams. As well as a massive shout out to Melton Warriors for supplying us with access to the change rooms and use of their fields for our home games. Lavinia Afungia was there to capture all of the action and these snapshots and videos can be found @NiaMedia (all social channels). Just a reminder for students to if able to bring back their Permission to Publish forms so that these images can be shared to the school page.

Opens 13 aside Gala Day

On the 1st of July MSC competed in the Storm Trophy gala day playing 13 aside games for both the U18 Boys and Girls teams. The girls showed great teamwork and sportsmanship finishing the day undefeated which was a great reflection of their hard work and effort on the day. The boys backed up their efforts winning 4/5 games and narrowly losing to Craigieburn 4 points to 0. They displayed great teamwork with victories over Fountain Gate, Hume, Staughton College and Hampton Park. Both teams will now progress to the final which will be held on the 24th July Week 1 Term 3. Special thanks to Afu and Mr Cook for managing players and teams. A massive shout out to our ever reliable videographer NiaMedia where you can catch all the action on socials.

Storm Trophy Champions

On the 24th of July our senior Boys and Girls rugby League teams qualified for the Sate Finals of the Storm Trophy to be held after school at Seabrook Reserve Broadmeadows. Unfortunately, the girls game was forfeited which meant that our senior girls were named winners for the second year in a row. The boys would again take on Craigieburn in what was a fast and physical contest showcasing a high level of talent and skill. At half time there was nothing separating either team with the scores locked at 10 all. After some excellent defence this deadlock was eventually broken with Melton winning the Storm Trophy for the second year in a row. NRL Victoria named Matthew Sauao as player of the match and our boys team await confirmation for an interstate fixture later this term.

Over the school holidays we had a plethora of students represent MSC and Victoria at state level for both rugby league and rugby union. Oriana Ioane who represented NRL VIC in the U16’s girls rugby league team was named the most valuable player for her team at the Australian championships. This is a testament to her hard work and dedication to her sport. Well Done Oriana!
