Welcome to Term 4

Welcome back to students, staff and families for the last term of 2026.

This term will be a significant milestone for our Year 6 students as this will be their last term of Primary schooling. Term 4 is planned to be incredibly busy with Year 4, 5 and Year 6 camps, Year 3 Big Day Out, Transition programs - Flying to Foundation, Year 6 to Year 7 and Stepping Up, finals for Sporting events, Year 6 Fun Week, excursions /incursions, Year 6 Graduation and the Christmas Carols evening, just to name the main events.

School Upgrade - Update

It’s been one year since I informed our community in the Newsletter that Greenvale PS was identified as one of 20 schools identified for a future upgrade in the 2025/26 Victorian budget announcements. Our school was allocated a potential $10.76 million dollars for this upgrade. The upgrade for our school will include a new administration area and a Resource Intensive Learning centre (RIL). The RIL will include spaces for Visual Arts, Science and Food technology.

To date, we have worked closely with Tandem Design Studio (architects) which was the successful tenderer, the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) and DET Regional staff for the initial concept design, then into more detailed aspects of both buildings. We are currently completing the Design and Development stage which will then be submitted to the VSBA. Tandem Architects have met with required staff and School Councillors regarding the design and at the last School Council meeting delivered a visual presentation.

Once the funding is approved in the 2026/27 budget, the next step will be to finalise the details of the design and put it out to tender.

Flying to Foundation - Congratulations!

We are so excited to be able to again offer a ‘Flying to Foundation’ transition program for our new Foundation students in 2027!

A Flying to Foundation parent information session was held this week at school and extremely well attended by families. It was so affirming to hear two of our Foundation students (Daneer 0RH and Amar 0EB) talk about ‘Highlights from my First Year at School’ to all attendees.

Thanks to Rebecca Hart who is leading the organisation of this year’s ‘Flying to Foundation’ transition program with the support of the current Foundation team.

We look forward to working together with the families of our new Foundation students for 2027. Our Flying to Foundation student transition sessions start on the 13 November. I’m sure the Kinder students are excited to be coming to spend time at their new school.

World Teachers' Day - in recognition of our amazing, dedicated teachers

This year, at Greenvale PS, we are celebrating World Teachers' Day in Australia on Wednesday, 25th October. This is in recognition of the contribution teachers make to education across the globe. This day is celebrated in over 100 countries. Research states that the most important element that makes a difference to student outcomes is the teacher. In our rapidly changing and interdependent world, teachers not only have to ensure that students acquire solid skills in basic subjects, but also that they become responsible local and global citizens, at ease with new technologies and able to make informed decisions about health, the environment and other challenges.

Maybe your child could show their appreciation of their teacher by creating a card or writing a poem/letter?

Congratulations

Congratulations goes to our IT technician, Dean Armellin.

Dean, who enjoys writing songs, wrote a song last year which delivers the message that the world needs to be free from bullying whether it is in the school grounds or in the workplace.

His song is called Rise Above the Noise. When Dean approached Bully Zero Australia with the song, they felt his song was aligned with their cause and decided that they would adopt this for their global campaign Yellow Day. On NOVEMBER 5, Bully Zero asks people to wear yellow and join the global movement as they continue the fight against bullying in schools, workplaces, and beyond.
