Procedural Writing in Action!

Year 2 has been busy learning all about procedural writing — writing clear, step-by-step instructions that explain how to make or do something. Students have been exploring the importance of using an appropriate sequence, including important details and choosing precise language to make their instructions easy to follow.

To put their learning into practice, students have enjoyed two hands-on cooking experiences. Last week, they followed a procedure to make delicious fairy bread, carefully spreading, sprinkling and decorating their creations before enjoying the tasty results.

This week, students followed another procedure to make Vegemite and cheese scrolls. They continued to practise following instructions in the correct sequence and enjoyed seeing their written learning come to life. Both experiences have been a fun and delicious way for students to understand how procedural writing is used in everyday life.
