District Athletics 

68 students from Years 3 to 6 competed in the Monash Heights District Athletics Carnival at Box Hill Athletics Track in Box Hill North on Thursday 3 September. The children trained well for all their events: shot put, discus, long jump, triple jump, high jump, 100m, 200m, 800m, 1500m and circular relay. 

They proudly represented Essex Heights and supported their teammates throughout the day. All students should be extremely proud of their efforts and achievements. Congratulations to those children who received ribbons for placing first to fourth, they will represent the District at the Division event in Term 4 on Wednesday 7 October. We placed third overall which was terrific. 

Sporting events like these wouldn’t run without the valuable help from our school community. A huge thanks to John Colley, Vera Wu and Evelyn Dally who volunteered to assist, helping with the shot put, long jump and discus events. Thank you to Miss Walker for co-ordinating the discus, Miss Lanyon for marshalling the students for their events, while I was presenting ribbons and Miss Kemp was organising the students at the finish line.

Congratulations to all the students.

Monique Hocking

I competed in District Athletics at Box Hill Track. It was a great opportunity to represent our school and compete against other schools. We took part in events like running, jumping and throwing and we all tried our best and placed third. The heavy rain made the day challenging, the wet conditions made everything harder but we didn’t let the weather stop us. We kept going, supported each other and showed great determination. I would like to give a big shoutout to all the parents who came and parent helpers plus Miss Kemp and Ms Hocking for supporting us and making the day possible. 

Illary – Year 6 

 

On the 3rd of September I competed at the District Athletics Carnival in three events – 100m, 200m and relay A. Sadly I didn’t make it to Division but I had a lot of fun. A big thank you to Ms Hocking, Miss Kemp, Miss Walker and Miss Lanyon for cheering and supporting us throughout the day. 

Samantha – Year 6

District Basketball

15 Year 5 and Year 6 students represented EHPS at the Monash Heights District Basketball competition on Friday 4 September at Waverley Basketball Stadium in Chadstone.

Both our teams proudly represented Essex Heights against some tough opposition teams. They each played five matches against Mount Waverley, Jells Park, Wheelers Hill, Burwood East and Mount Scopus. 

A huge thanks to Miss Kemp for training the students and coaching the girls’ team. Thanks also to the following families for their help with coaching and scoring on the day, Peter Lukies, Edwina & David McCarthy, Kat & Ross Pryde, Christine Smith and Neng Semmens. Your support is valuable for these days to run. 

Congratulations to Jacqueline, Nilani, Amali, Amiya, Mehar, Emily & Grace who won all their matches and will progress to Division finals on Thursday 15 October. 

Monique Hocking

On the 4th September we competed in the District basketball round robin along with the rest of the Allstars girls’ team consisting of Amali, Nilani, Amiya, Emily, Jacqueline and Maggie. Before the matches we were all feeling excited and confident as we had previous experience as a team from Hooptime. Fortunately, we won all of our matches after playing all the schools within our District, receiving a blue flag and a spot in the Division finals. We are now going to two events, Monash Waverley Division and Region Hooptime. During our experience we had a good time playing as a team and having fun in the process. We would like to thank Miss Kemp for coaching us and Ms Hocking and the parents for scoring and supporting us. 

Grace C & Mehar – Year 6

 

I participated in the District basketball event for the boys’ team on the 4th September. It was an exciting yet nervous experience where we played five other schools in a 24 minute game. Unfortunately, we only won one out of four games, but the whole team was supportive towards each other. I would like to thank Miss Kemp and Ms Hocking for organising us to play in the event and our coach for being energetic and encouraging. 

Ehan – Year 6

 

I competed in the district basketball tournament. We had a very tough first match and played five matches altogether. We only had one win out of the five but we still tried our best and had a great time. I would like to congratulate the girls’ team for making it to division. Shoutout to Will’s Dad for coaching our team. Thanks to Miss Kemp and Ms Hocking for taking the two teams to the Waverley Basketball Stadium and supporting us. 

Aarin – Year 6

33 students from Years 4 to 6 have qualified to represent Essex Heights Primary School and the Monash Heights District at the Monash Waverley Division event on Wednesday 7 October (week 1 of Term 4) at the Bill Sewart Athletics Track in East Burwood.

Division Hot Shots Tennis

20 Year 6 students have qualified for the Monash Waverley Division Hot Shots Tennis finals on Monday 12 October to be held at Tally Ho Tennis Club in Mount Waverley.

Division Volleyball

16 Year 6 students have qualified to compete at the Monash Waverley Division Volleyball event on Wednesday 14 October at The Rings Maroondah Leisure Centre in Ringwood.

Division Girls Basketball

8 students from Years 5 and 6 have qualified to compete in the Monash Waverley Division Girls' Basketball finals on Thursday 15 October to be held at Nunawading Basketball Stadium in Burwood East. This is a day of round-robin matches, where girls are provided the opportunity to participate in a competitive sports environment. Finals will be played and the winning team will attend the Region event.
