Pedestrian Detours

Thompsons Road and Berwick-Cranbourne Road Intersection Upgrade

A reminder to follow pedestrian detours during construction works

VIDA Roads (formerly Major Road Projects Victoria) is upgrading the Thompsons Road and Berwick-Cranbourne Road intersection to ease congestion and make your journey safer and more reliable.

While construction is underway, VIDA Roads would like to remind local school communities to please follow the pedestrian detours that have been put in place around the intersection.

VIDA Roads understands it's tempting to take shortcuts, but there are many reasons why it's not a good idea, including:

  • Safety: Construction sites have heavy machinery, uneven ground, and other hazards that aren't always visible. Detours are designed to keep pedestrians safely away from these risks.
  • Visibility: Workers and machine operators may have limited visibility. Staying within designated walkways ensures you're seen and not accidentally entering a work zone.
  • Changing conditions: Construction sites change daily. Footpaths close, equipment may move, and new work zones can appear quickly. Following the signed pedestrian detours ensures you're walking the safest, most up-to-date route.

When the upgrade is complete and the new traffic lights are in place, you'll be able to cross the intersection at the new dedicated pedestrian crossings, making it faster and safer for children, families, and the wider community to move around the area.
