Chess Friendly Tournament at St Monica’s College

On Wednesday, 1 April, St Monica’s College, Epping, hosted a friendly chess tournament for visiting schools Keilor Downs College and Rosehill Secondary College. This continues a tradition of friendly tournaments between these schools that began in 2023.

A total of 47 players from the three schools competed in the tournament, which consisted of seven rounds of matches. It was a very positive day enjoyed by all, allowing many younger players their first opportunity to play in an interschool chess tournament and a chance to gain valuable experience while having fun and making friends.

In a very close contest between the three schools, Keilor Downs College finished in 1st place on 26 points, ahead of Rosehill Secondary College on 25 points and St Monica’s College on 24 points.

Congratulations to Sahib Bhulla (10 Green), Kristoffer Malaga (8 Orange), Dev Chopra (10 Purple) and Manwel Maqdasi (10 Brown), who each excelled by winning 5 of their 7 games, and to Joshveer Mann (10 Mauve), whose sportsmanship and spirit of competition was rewarded with the Fair Play Award adjudged by the staff members.
