French Film Festival
GEC students were once again fortunate to attend the French Film Festival this year.
On Thursday, 19 March, students in Years 10, 11 and 12 went to see Jean Valjean, a film based on Victor Hugo’s Les Misérables. The film explores themes of justice and redemption and gave students a chance to connect their learning to a classic work of French literature.
On Wednesday 25 March, all Year 7 students, as well as students in the French First Language program and the French Immersion program, attended a screening of Arco, a French animated science fiction film that follows a young character on a journey through time and space.
Students enjoyed the experience and appreciated the opportunity to watch French films with their friends.

Mirai Event
The two Year 10 Japanese classes and 9E (Japanese Immersion) went to Monash University to hear about how learning Japanese can expand horizons and create opportunities for the future.
The Mirai event which occurred Friday 13th March, was an illuminating experience that allowed students of Japanese to peer into the possibilities for further Japanese study and immersion. It was a day filled with fun activities and engaging speeches. We heard from the Consul General to Victoria, alumni of Japan exchange programs, staff and faculty from Monash University, led by Junko Nichols, and a bubbly MC from Futures with Japan. There were over 25 schools that attended, and we battled it out by sending two representatives from our school to compete in a kahoot about what we had learned. GEC won one of the three of the events, and placed 3rd in another. We were given a very generous prize of tasty Japanese snacks, which was shared amongst attendees. In conclusion, the event was fun filled, informative and well worth the squished bus rides.
