Principal's Report

Dear families,

As we begin Term 3 at St Brigid’s College, I extend a warm welcome back to all our families. I hope the recent break provided your household with a chance to rest, recharge, and enjoy some time together away from the usual routines of school life.

Term 3 marks an important point in the academic year – a time of focus, growth, and renewed momentum. For our students, it presents a valuable opportunity to build on the progress they’ve already made, to set new goals, and to engage deeply in their learning. For our staff, it is a time to consolidate, innovate, and continue working in partnership with families to support each student’s journey.

During the holidays one family from our community was involved in a serious traffic accident and, while our student, Jody Bee, is still in the Royal Children’s Hospital, many members of our community have been providing support, gifts and connection through letters and emails. Once we know further the needs of this family, I am sure we will unite to fundraise to assist with ongoing costs.

I would also like to acknowledge that while some members of our community had the chance to take time away over the break, others continued to work behind the scenes to support the smooth operation of the College. We’re grateful for their dedication and the care they bring to our shared mission.

The subject selection process for 2026 is well underway and I am pleased with the high level of parental engagement in this process. As our NAPLAN results show above average growth in our students, the academic rigour of our program provides the required challenges for our students to meet with success post school. This week the Year 10 students have had an overnight experience accessing Tertiary and Industry options in Warrnambool. Thank you to Lesley Lannen for organising this and thanks also goes to the WSMLLEN for funding this great opportunity.

On 15 August, our community comes together again for the Presentation Ball at the Horsham Town Hall and I applaud the efforts of the Year 11 cohort (and a few Year 12s) in the dedication to presenting the College in the best light.

Our building works continue close to schedule and at our assembly on Wednesday I revealed to the students the new name of our Student Café: The Well (proposed by students Amy Bolwell and Ayva Robertson). The symbolism of a well is a place of rejuvenation, replenishment, rest and life giving. Today’s prayer recalls the story of Jesus and the Samaritan women at the well and the water of eternal life offered through Christ. Stage 1 of the new refurbishment will be accessible to students in the next fortnight.

Stay safe,

Gerard

We would like to take a moment to acknowledge the dedication and contribution that our Principal, Mr. Gerard Raven makes to our College. We appreciate the time and energy you give to our school community on a daily basis and thank you for always striving to build St Brigid's College into the best it can be. Thank you!

We hope you join us in sharing your gratitude for our Principal - and our team of school leaders - today and every day.
