Year 9 – Broader Horizons Careers Program

Late in Term 2 our Year 9’s participated in the Broader Horizons program facilitated by the North Central LLEN. This program aims to give students hands-on experiences to explore career opportunities and build skills for their future. Through activities like industry visits, work placements, and mentorships, the program connects young people with local employers and real-world learning.

Thanks to the following local employers who gave up their time to give students a taste of their industry – Buloke Shire, Johnson Goodwin Village, East Wimmera Health Service, YMCA, Donald Steel, Signs R Us, Nutrien Ag and Landwehr Electrical.

Year 10s Explore Their Futures at Wimmera Careers Expo

Twelve Year 10 students Miss Cavanagh and Mrs Griffiths recently took part in the Wimmera Victorian Careers Expo, held at Longerenong College. As country Victoria’s largest careers expo, the event offered a valuable opportunity for students to explore a wide range of future pathways.

The expo, which attracts more than 2,000 attendees each year, is a one-stop shop for vocational and tertiary information across Western Victoria. Students were able to speak directly with career, industry, and course advisors from a broad range of local, regional, metropolitan, and interstate organisations.

Over 20 universities from Victoria and South Australia were represented, alongside a variety of training providers, employers, and industry groups. The students made the most of the chance to ask questions, gather information, and gain insight into the opportunities available to them after school.

Junior Science Olympiad

Back in June Year 8 student Matei sat the Junior Science Olympiad exam. Donald High School has not had a student take up this opportunity for a number of years.

Congratulations to Matei who received a High Distinction. 8712 students sat the exam and High Distinctions are given to the top 10%.

Well done, Matei. The school is very proud of your achievement.
