Learning and Teaching

MACS' Flourishing Podcast at SMCM

On Monday 27 April, our school welcomed the Flourishing Podcast team, who visited to film and record a conversation about our school’s learning journey.

This provided a valuable opportunity to share some of the work our staff have undertaken over recent years as we have continued strengthening teaching and learning through evidence-informed practice. Across this period, staff have engaged deeply in professional learning, reflected carefully on student data, and worked collaboratively to refine classroom practice in ways that better support student understanding, engagement and long-term learning.

The conversation highlighted aspects of our journey including improvement across curriculum areas, assessment practices, retrieval routines, instructional consistency, and the way staff have approached change with professionalism and openness. It also reflected the significant commitment our teachers have shown in continuing to build knowledge and adapt practice thoughtfully over time.

We were particularly pleased that this work attracted interest beyond our own school community, as it gave deserved recognition to the professionalism and commitment of our staff. The progress made has been the result of sustained collective effort, thoughtful leadership, and teachers who have been willing to engage deeply with new learning while continuing to place student outcomes at the centre of their work.

Importantly, this journey has not been without challenge. Like any meaningful school improvement work, it has involved robust professional discussions, important questions, and careful reflection along the way. Those conversations have been a strength, helping us refine decisions, strengthen shared understanding, and continue moving forward with clarity and purpose.

We are proud of how far we have come and equally aware that this remains an ongoing journey of learning and refinement. Opportunities such as this allow us to pause and recognise the work that staff have undertaken together over time, and the positive difference that is increasingly being seen across our learning space.

Once the podcast episode and footage have been produced, we look forward to sharing it with our school community.
