Maths

Year 1 students have been building their maths skills through a variety of engaging activities. They have been practising counting to 120 and skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s. Students are learning to find and place numbers on a number line to strengthen their understanding of number order and are developing their knowledge of place value by partitioning numbers into tens and ones. Students have been exploring measurement by comparing the length of everyday objects, and learning about time, including the days of the week and the months of the year.

Year 2 students have been recognising and ordering numbers to at least 1000, learning to regroup and rename two and three digit numbers. They have also been continuing number patterns by identifying the missing rule. Students have looked at using informal units to measure length, capacity and mass. They have also been reading calendars and reading time to the hour, half-hour and quarter hour.

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Each morning, students check in by placing their icy pole stick into a cup that reflects how they are feeling (happy, sad, excited, calm or nervous), followed by a morning circle to outline expectations, discuss the weekly value, and participate in a settling activity.

In the first two weeks of term, students took part in ARPS Academy, where they focused on identifying emotions, learning strategies to cope with each one, and creating “first week of school” crowns.

This term, students have also been engaged in the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships program, focusing on Emotional Literacy and Personal Strengths. Through these topics, students have developed their ability to recognise and describe emotions, understand that all feelings are valid, and identify their individual strengths.

Students have also participated in the UR Strong program, learning about the qualities of healthy friendships and strategies to manage challenges through respectful communication.

It has been wonderful to see students applying these skills in the classroom and playground as they build positive relationships and support one another.

Inquiry

Students have been exploring important topics that help them better understand themselves and the world around them. They have learned about healthy eating and how to make good choices to keep their bodies strong. Students have also developed their understanding of road safety and how to stay safe in different environments. Through discussions and activities, they explored what it means to be part of a community and how we can care for others. They also learned about growth and change, and what happens as we grow up. It has been wonderful to see their curiosity and engagement throughout the term.

Digital Technology

Students have been learning about being safe and responsible online during Digital Literacy lessons. They have been using the 'Mighty Heroes' program, which teaches important online safety ideas through four Australian animal characters. Students learned that Wanda the Echidna protects personal information, River the Sugar Glider shows kindness and respect online, Dusty the Frilled Neck Lizard reminds us to trust our feelings and ask a trusted adult for help, and Billie the Bilby encourages us to ask questions and think carefully about what we see online. Through videos, discussions and activities, students are learning how to use technology safely, be kind online, and make good choices when using the internet.

Morning Fitness

Students have been loving their weekly fin sessions! Starting the day with movement helps wake up both our bodies and brains, getting us ready to learn. Students challenge themselves with burpees, sit-ups, squats and laps of the oval.  A big thank you to Mr K for helping us start the day full of energy and fun!
