Tag Rugby

This term, our students  had the exciting opportunity to participate in Tag Rugby sessions, guided by Kaycee from a specialist rugby clinic. For many, it was their first time trying the sport—and it quickly became a hit!

From the very first session, students were taught how to wear the tag belts correctly, pass the ball with confidence, and use smart strategies to dodge defenders. They played fast-paced games that focused on building skills like agility, teamwork, and communication, all while having lots of fun.

“I’d really enjoyed it because I’ve never played Tag Rugby before,” Hugo from 310 shared. “But it was so much fun running around and trying to get people’s tags. I even got two!”

Hayden shared the below “We learned how to pull off the tags while running and scored lots of touch downs.”

Working together was a strong focus throughout the sessions. Students were encouraged to support each other, celebrate their successes, and improve as a team.

“We worked really well together when we were trying to get the ball over the line,” said Nola, who proudly scored three points. “It felt great being cheered on by my team.”

Taylor from 1407 also noticed their personal growth throughout the experience. “Last year I couldn’t get past anyone, but now I can run and dodge through people. I got 10 tags!” A highlight for many was boys vs. girls game.

Beyond the physical skills, students also learned about sportsmanship and resilience. “If someone was nervous, I’d tell them to try their best and if they weren’t ready, just watch others first, then practice, practice, practice,” Nola advised.

Whether it was learning how to pass, cheering on teammates, or pulling off a tricky dodge, Tag Rugby brought out the best in everyone. The sessions were filled with laughter, encouragement, and lots of running making it a memorable and valuable experience for all.
