A Wonderful Beginning to the Year in Primary

It has been a great start to the year in Primary. Students, staff, and our wider community have been partnering together to build a positive, engaging, and joy‑filled learning environment. Across each year level, it has been encouraging to see students taking part in a wide variety of activities—showing curiosity, teamwork, and a willingness to try new things.

In classrooms, students are already developing new skills in English and Mathematics, leaning into learning with confidence and enthusiasm. Beyond the classroom, the energy has continued as students get involved in the many recess and lunch activities happening around the school each day.

Last week we saw students take part in the Primary House Athletics Day, where students not only enjoyed the events but also cheered one another on, celebrated achievements, and embraced the spirit of friendly competition.

Here are some reflections from students:

Addison (Year 6): I’ve enjoyed starting my new grammar book!

Martin (Year 5): I like doing music and learning about all the different ways to make music.

Taylah (Year 6): I’ve enjoyed doing the art classes and discovering new ways to draw.

Alexis (Year 6): I’ve loved hanging out with new friends at lunch and recess.

Joash (Year 5): I really enjoyed competing in the athletics carnival with my friends and doing math in class.

Imogen (Year 1): I liked seeing the new goats arrive, they're so cute.

Owen (Year 1): I love playing with my friends at lunch and recess.

Josephine (Year 1): I’ve enjoyed learning new signs in Auslan with Miss Shurley.

Myra (Year 4): I liked making space pictures in art.

Hudson C (Year 4):  Playing soccer with my friends at lunch and recess.

Austin (Year 3): Competing in the athletics carnival with my friends.

Ruby (Year 3): Doing PE with Mr Harvey and friends. I also like doing quiet drawing in class.

Amelia (Prep): I’ve liked playing outside with friends and playing in class.

Ezra O (Prep): I really like playing with the Lego in my classroom.

Worship Wednesday on Pause

As a school we are excited to welcome all families to our Primary Assemblies each Monday, Wednesday and Friday. 

We wish to advise that Worship Wednesday will be on pause on Wednesday 11th March due to School Photo day.

Please join us on Friday for our Primary Celebrations assembly from 8.30am in the Jiloa Centre.

Learn to Swim: Parent Volunteers 

Students from Prep to Year 4 will be participating in our 2026 Learn to Swim campaign between Wednesday 18th March and Tuesday 31st March, and we would love some parents to join us to help make this a wonderful time for all our students.

If you are available to be a parent volunteer, and wish to be considered to help, please email Mrs Corina Barnard at: corina.barnard@dcs.tas.edu.au.  Please note you are required to have completed the ‘Working With Our DCS Students’ course this year, and have a valid RWVP card.
