PRINCIPAL

As we move through the second half of Term 3, I remain impressed by how our students embrace the opportunities available at Harvey Ag. Whether in the classroom, on the farm, in trades or representing the College at events, our students continue to demonstrate responsibility and a willingness to learn.

One of the most rewarding aspects of working at an agricultural college is seeing young people grow in confidence and independence. Every day, students develop skills, build relationships, and learn the value of teamwork, accountability, and hard work.

With spring just around the corner, activity across the College is increasing. It is an exciting time on the farm, with students gaining valuable experience in seasonal operations and enterprise activities.

We have had a significant number of students and staff affected by illness in recent weeks. I encourage everyone to take the time to rest, recover, and look after their wellbeing. In a close-knit community such as Harvey Ag, taking care of ourselves also helps us take care of those around us.

I would like to sincerely thank the staff who have recently given their time to support students at events and excursions, including the sustainability excursions to White Rocks and Unison Farms, the Merino Breeders Ag Challenge in Katanning, Dowerin Field Day, and trades-focused excursions to Mineral Resources and Komatsu. 

These experiences provide invaluable learning opportunities, industry exposure and personal growth for our students. They are only possible because staff are willing to invest their time in supporting our young people. Harvey Ag is fortunate to have such a dedicated team, and I thank them for their ongoing commitment to creating opportunities that enrich our students' learning and development.

To our Year 12 students, the final stretch of your Harvey Ag journey is now well underway. Stay focused on your goals, continue to seek support when needed, and make the most of the opportunities that remain before graduation. As you approach this important milestone, take pride in all you have achieved during your time at the College. We look forward to celebrating your successes and seeing the positive impact you will make in the future.

Attendance

Regular attendance is essential to student success at Harvey Ag. When families accept a place at the College, they commit to students attending school every day unless they are unwell or there are exceptional circumstances. Recently, we have seen an increase in leave requests for activities and commitments that are not directly related to College programs or approved educational activities. While we appreciate the importance of some of these commitments, every day away from the College results in missed learning, practical training, and experiences that cannot always be replicated or easily caught up.

We ask parents and carers to support the College by carefully considering leave requests and ensuring students attend whenever possible. High attendance is a key factor in student achievement, engagement, and future success, and we value your support in maintaining these expectations.
