Sick Bay & 1st Aid News

Our sick bay is available to all of our students who require assistance when they hurt themselves or feel unwell.

When a child comes to us we will apply any first aid that is needed and either send them back to class or call home for them to be collected, depending on the severity of the issue.

It is a school policy that if a child bumps their head, we call a parent straight away. If the bump to the head causes a lump, swelling, headache or dizziness the child must be collected from school so they can be monitored at home or visit their family GP.

Parents will be notified via Compass if their child attends the sickbay with an injury that requires more than just a band aid, but was fine to return to class.

Student Medications

If your child requires a daily medication administered at school,  a short term medication or a medication for conditions such as migraine or hay fever  you are required to fill out a medication permission form.

The medication must be stored at our school office and administered by a staff member.

Students are not allowed to keep medication in their school bags as this can be a health concern for fellow students. The only exception we have is Asthma medication.

Contact our office if your child requires medication and we will have you fill out a form or you can down load the form below.

Students With Asthma

All students who are Asthmatics must have an updated Asthma Management Plan, each year. These are provided by your family GP. The updated copy must be provided to our school office so that it can be updated onto your child's student file and a copy provided to their class teacher.

Asthma Management Plans are also required for students who experience seasonal Asthma or Asthma that occurs when they have a cold or virus.

All students who are Asthmatics must have their Ventolin & a spacer in their bags each day and take them along to all, off campus excursions.

If you have any questions or concerns about this, please call our office.

Food Allergies

A number of students  here at Surfside have severe food allergies that can result in an Anaphylactic allergy. As a result, all of our Foundation to Grade 2 classes are nut free & sesame free classrooms.
