Principal News

Dear Marian Catholic College Community-Parents and Carers,

Pope Leo XIV

Today, Friday 9th, we have the exciting announcement regarding the election of Cardinal

Robert Prevost as Pope Leo XIV. Pope Leo made his first appearance on the balcony of St Peter’s Basilica, saying as his first words “Peace be with you” to the waiting crowds below. Pope Leo followed this with:

Together, we must try to find out how to be a missionary church, a church that builds bridges, establishes dialogue, that’s always open to receive — like on this piazza with open arms — to be able to receive everybody that needs our charity, our presence, dialogue and love.”

We pray for Pope Leo as he takes up this enormous responsibility and gift of service for the Catholic Church, Catholics all over the world, for us and all those in need of God’s care and mercy.

ANZAC Day Service

I would like to thank all staff, student Captains and Vice Captains, Airforce Cadets, students from Years 7-12  and all families involved in supporting the official March, laying of wreaths and the beautiful ANZAC services held on April 25th at the Cenotaph, Memorial Park, Griffith. A special mention here goes to Year 11 student, Mark Channa, who had the honour of playing the traditional Reveille to mark the minute of silence at both Dawn and 10am services.

Dr Justin Coulson & Council of Catholic School Parents (CCSP)

On Wednesday, Dr Justin Coulson, and members of the Council of Catholic School Parents, including NSW Director Mrs Cath Garrett Jones,  visited Marian Catholic College for a presentation to all parents on ‘Resilience’ and parents can help their children and teens to develop this. Justin also presented to teachers at an earlier staff meeting that day.

Justin is an incredibly funny, knowledgeable and experienced parenting expert and psychologist. We learned about allowing our students the opportunity to grow, to solve their own problems with our support and guidance. The challenges of managing social media and monitoring the usage of technology by our teenagers was also highlighted.

Thank you to the CCSP for their sponsorship of this event, to all parents who participated, to our teaching staff and office team for their support. A very special vote of thanks to Mrs Francine DiLorenzo for her superb support and publicity throughout. Parents who missed this opportunity and would like to learn more are encouraged to explore the Happy Families Website on happyfamilies.com.au

Working in Partnership-A Commitment by Families and Schools

I encourage all parents to read the copy of the Working in Partnership Commitment, that underpins the working relationship between the College and all parents and carers. This key agreement outlines expectations and support provided by the College and agreements from parents in committing students to our care. It highlights the importance of harmonious and respectful relationships and communications between home and school. The Commitment is linked here for your information. Copies of this will be sent to all parents via a Compass notification next week. Families of new students will receive copies of the Commitment on enrolment at Marian.
