Math News

Xcelerate is the new initiative currently being trialled in the Mathematics department for Stage 4 students. Designed to strengthen multiplication skills, the Xcelerate initiative targets students in Years 7 and 8, with a focus on improving their times tables.
Each lesson, students will dedicate 5 to 10 minutes to practising their times tables using either online quizzes (which are posted in their Google Classroom) or handwritten worksheets. At the beginning of the program, students completed a five-minute pre-test featuring mixed multiplication and division questions. The goal is to see measurable improvement when they retake the test in Week 10.
You can support your child by encouraging regular practice at home —developing confidence and fluency with times tables is a key building block for future success in mathematics.
Assessment 1
All Stage 4 and 5 students will complete their first Mathematics assessment in Week 3 of this term. To support their revision, teachers have provided a range of helpful resources and activities. If you have any questions or would like to discuss your child’s progress, please don’t hesitate to contact their Mathematics teacher.
