Year 5 & 6 Update

Term 2 in 5/6!

We have had a jam-packed Term 2 in the Senior School!

Our Year 5 students kicked off Week 1 with their ‘Game On’ incursion, where they worked in teams to create their own arcade games. The day focused on teamwork and collaboration, linking closely with our social and emotional learning. Using a variety of recycled materials, students demonstrated fantastic critical thinking skills as they brought their designs to life.

In English, our 5/6 students have begun their Geography unit and recently finished reading the text Blueback. They explored sustainability and the impacts of human activity on marine environments, while also enjoying the opportunity to compare the book with the movie adaptation. Last week, we began our new class text, Boy Overboard, and have already seen high levels of engagement across all classes.

In Mathematics, students spent the first few weeks exploring fractions. They investigated different ways to represent fractions, identified equivalence, and further developed strategies to order and compare them. As we continue our learning about decimal fractions, we look forward to seeing students deepen their understanding and make further connections within their learning.

Our Year 6 student leaders have continued to develop their leadership skills by running and organising lunchtime clubs, as well as proudly representing our school at the Officer Dawn Service and at the Koorie conference in the Cranbourne Botanical Gardens.
