Specialist Update

Visual Art
This term in Visual Arts, students across all year levels have been developing their creativity, technical skills, and confidence as artists while exploring a range of materials, techniques, and artistic processes.
Our Prep to Grade 2 students have been experimenting with a variety of printing techniques, including stamping, rolling, and texture printing. Through these hands-on experiences, students explored pattern, shape and texture while learning how artists use different materials and processes to create artworks. Students also reflected on their artistic choices and discussed what worked well in their creations, building their visual arts vocabulary and confidence in responding to art.
In Grades 3 and 4, students combined digital inspiration with traditional artmaking by creating Minecraft-style pixel portraits through collage. Students investigated shape, space, proportion, and composition while carefully arranging coloured paper squares to design detailed portraits. This unit encouraged students to plan, experiment, and problem-solve while exploring how artists can communicate ideas and identity through visual conventions.
Our Grade 5 and 6 students focused on observational drawing and still life. Students developed technical drawing skills including shading, line, tone, proportion, and perspective while learning how artists carefully observe objects to create realistic artworks. Students were also encouraged to incorporate their own artistic voice and personal flair by arranging meaningful objects and experimenting with composition and style to create unique still life portraits.
It has been wonderful to see students growing in creativity, resilience, and artistic confidence throughout Term 2.
Exciting New Additions to Our STEM Room!
Thanks to the generous support of our amazing Parents and Friends team, our STEM room now has some very special new residents: a Blue Tongue Lizard and two axolotls!
These wonderful additions have already created so much excitement amongst students! Students have loved the opportunity to observe the animals up close, learn about their habitats and features, and even hold the Blue Tongue Lizard if they wished to. The experience has sparked curiosity, encouraged thoughtful discussions, and provided hands-on learning opportunities that students will remember for a long time.
Having real-life animals in our STEM space helps bring learning to life and supports students in developing a deeper understanding of science, responsibility, and the natural world.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to our incredible Parents and Friends team for helping make our STEM room such an engaging and exciting place to learn! We are extremely grateful for everything you do for our school community!
PE
Term 2 is always massive in PE with lots happening!
Interschool sport is well underway in the senior school, with students in our Netball, AFL, Soccer and Teeball teams practising against other schools each Friday! This is in the lead-up to the Winter Sport Lightning Premiership event at the end of the term!
We had great success at the District Cross Country event, with our team winning the Officer District Cross Country championship! We also had 15 students progress to the division event also coming up later this term!
Other events coming up include our House Athletics Day, Division Girls AFL and plenty more to look forward to in term 3!
Keep crushing it in PE legends!
Performing Arts
Term 2 has been a wonderfully exciting and energetic term in Performing Arts as students across the school continue rehearsing for our upcoming production of Matilda JR! The buzz around rehearsals has been incredible, with students showing great enthusiasm, commitment and teamwork as they prepare to bring this much-loved story to life on stage.
Throughout the term, you may have noticed our lead, supporting and cameo cast members being featured in recent newsletters. It has been wonderful to celebrate the dedication and talent of our students as they work hard to develop their characters and performance skills.
Tickets for the production are now on sale and selling quickly. We encourage families to purchase tickets early to avoid disappointment!
In Performing Arts classes, students have been focusing on strengthening their drama and performance skills by learning how to connect with their intended audiences through expressive facial expressions, clear character choices and energetic stage presence. Students have also continued building their confidence and abilities in dance, rhythm and singing, with rehearsals full of creativity, persistence and joy.
A highlight of the term was our Week 5 whole-school dance rehearsal, where students had the opportunity to come together with other cohorts to practise their dances for the very first time. It was a fantastic experience for students to see the scale and excitement of the production beginning to come together, and they should be commended for the enthusiasm and teamwork they demonstrated throughout the rehearsal process.
We are now looking forward to coming together again in Week 8 for two whole-school rehearsals before our upcoming performances in Week 9:
- Wednesday 17th June – Marram and Dulai Wurrung
Thursday 18th June – Wallert and Bunjil
We are incredibly proud of the effort students are showing each week and cannot wait to share their hard work with our school community at the performances later this term.
