Head of Primary Years' Report

Dear parents, carers and our community of Hazel Glen College,

This week, I was fortunate to watch our Year 6 girls' AFL team play in the Interschool Sport Division final. I was impressed to see their grit as they navigated the games throughout the day and they showed excellent teamwork, taking out the win in their final game of the day. Well done, girls and I hope that you enjoy more teamwork opportunities in your final year of Primary Years together. A special thank you to Mr Murphy, who coached the girls and for Mr Gibson for his coordination of the Interschool sporting events.

Planning has commenced for our 2026 College Arts and Technology Show later this year. This is a highlight for our College community and showcases our College programs for visual arts, performing arts and technology. We are seeking donations for raffles or awards to support this event and to promote it to our local community. If you are able to help, please drop any items off at the Primary Years Admin Office. More details about the event will be published soon. Students are busy creating their art pieces for the gallery for the evening. The event takes place in November.

Thank you for your patience throughout the period of Industrial Action. We acknowledge the disruption this causes, but we really appreciate the kind words of support towards teaching staff during this time. We hope there is an outcome in the future to ensure no further disruptions.

Students continue to be rewarded for displaying the College values of Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Relationships, and you will see emails home when your child is being commended for these positive behaviours. We continue to feel proud of the kindness and positive culture we have across our College community. This is evident inside and outside of the classrooms daily.

We are continuing to promote the Primary Years for 2027 enrolments. We have received wonderful feedback from our local families regarding our classroom programs, additional support model, grounds and facilities. This is great to have new families from our local area take the time to come and visit and tour to find out more about Hazel Glen College Primary Years. Many families are making us their first choice of schools in the area and we look forward to welcoming our new community members to the College.

We pride ourselves on the College standard of education offered here and the journey for students continues right through to the Secondary Years. Our families who have had their children go through from the Primary Years to the end of the Secondary Years of schooling have experienced seamless transitions, solid subject pathways, continued social connections and being part of the pinnacle school within our local area. If you have not yet had a chance to come and experience Hazel Glen College, call our Admin team on 9717 7500 to book a time for a visit. We look forward to meeting you. For current families with siblings starting Prep in 2027, please submit your enrolment paperwork at your earliest convenience so that we can begin our forward planning for next year. 

A reminder for road safety around the College during drop-off and pick-up times. Please use the school crossings and remind your children to do so if they are being dropped off. A reminder that e-scooters or bikes are not permitted at the College. If your child has one, it may be confiscated due to safety, and you will be required to collect the item from the office.

If you require before or after school care, please check out our OSHC program. This program is a cost-effective option and a school-run program with College staff. Our attending students have an amazing time before and after school with their peers and staff. Students are dropped off and collected before and after school in the Primary Years. The program is run on-site at the Scout Hall. Food and drinks are provided as part of the program. Bookings can be taken as regular bookings or casual as required. To access casual bookings, please register with the OSHC Co-ordinator Chris Mitris.

Thank you for promoting home reading with your children. We have seen steady increases in students participating in home reading, and we know that this practice at home continually supports students' reading development. We hope that you are enjoying this time with your children, and please reach out to your child's class teacher if you need any helpful tips or strategies when supporting your child at home with their reading. We also see the difference that regular reading practice has on students growing with confidence in the classroom.
