Assistant Principal's Report

Mrs Rose Thomson AP Teaching and learning

We have had a positive and productive start to Term 3, with a range of College events already taking place from the first week. There is much more to come this term, as we focus on student progress and aspirations for 2027 and beyond.

Year 12 Parent-Teacher Interviews were held in Week 1, providing a valuable opportunity for families and teachers to discuss student achievement and expectations for Unit 4. Parent-Teacher Interviews for all other year levels will take place at the end of this term, in Week 10.

Students in Years 8, 9 and 10 attended the Subject Expo and Futures Fair in Week 2, viewing displays and completing a subject preferences passport. This important event was very well attended and the tertiary providers and teachers provided overwhelmingly positive feedback, particularly regarding the students’ genuine interest, active participation and insightful questions. Students will submit subject preferences for 2027 by Tuesday 28th of July. Further opportunities to discuss subjects will occur throughout the term before subject confirmations at the end of the term.

Year 10 students opting for the VCE VM program in 2027 will receive an application form and attend an interview with parents midway through the term.

Students in Year 7 will have an opportunity to select a Year 8 Enrichment Program subject for 2027. In Week 4, our Year 7 into 8 Enrichment Program Showcase will be set up for students and parents to view. A subject selection assembly will be held in Week 5 for 7B, C, D, E and F to learn more about the 2027 Year 8 Enrichment Program and what is on offer for them to choose from. Students in 7A will continue into ADP in 2027.

A Year 7 and 8 Subject Selection handbook is available on the College website under the ‘Teaching and Learning’ tab, in the Curriculum and Assessment section. Here is a link: https://www.greensc.vic.edu.au/uploaded_files/media/final_2027_year_7_and_8_handbook.pdf

We will provide information about how to submit preferences after the showcase and assembly.

Term 3: The Halfway Point

As we move through the rest of Term 3, it is important to reflect on what has been achieved so far this year, while also setting goals for the months ahead.

Research consistently shows that students who demonstrate perseverance, develop effective study habits, and embrace challenges are more likely to achieve strong academic outcomes. Term 3 is often referred to as the “momentum term” as it is the ideal time to make small improvements that can have a significant impact by the end of the year.

As we continue through Term 3, I encourage every student to take a moment to reflect:

  • What am I proud of from the first half of the year?
  • What are my goals for the second half?
  • What one habit can I improve this week?

Excellence is about consistently striving to be better than you were yesterday. As students begin the second half of the year, remember the words of Robert Collier: "Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out." Every lesson, every piece of feedback, and every study session is an opportunity to take another step towards achieving your goals.
