From the Classroom - B1 (Mr Loader)

Measuring in Maths

This week, students in B1 have begun to learn about measurement and in particular length, perimeter and area. Over the past two sessions, students have been finding the length of various objects around the classroom. We've discussed using both the most appropriate measurement (mm, cm or m), as well as the most appropriate tool (ruler, tape measure, trundle wheel). Before measuring, students have also been tasked to provide an appropriate estimate, which has helped them to select the best tool for the job!

At home, you can engage with your children about measuring various objects, whether that's with formal (metric - cm, ml, kg) or informal measurements (any object with the same length). Some ideas could include the height of family members, the weight of ingredients or the volume of liquids when cooking. See what you can find!
