Numeracy

Numeracy

In Term 3, we will be covering the following areas in Mathematics.

  • Place value - continuing to build students' knowledge of the place value of numbers up to 1000, including renaming numbers in standard and non-standard ways, and using that knowledge to solve addition and subtraction problems.
  • Algebra - building fluency of addition and subtraction facts and patterns, and consolidating the range of strategies that can be used to solve two-digit addition and subtraction problems.
  • Multiplicative thinking - continuing to develop students' ability to think multiplicatively and fractionally and use this knowledge to solve increasingly complex problems.
  • Financial maths - developing students' ability to apply knowledge of operations to financial transactions.
  • Space - continuing to build the spatial language that students use to describe different 2D shapes, including parallel and opposite lines.

At the beginning of each Mathematics lesson, students will have opportunities for interleaving where we briefly revise previous mathematical concepts taught through short warm-up exercises. These daily revision lessons allow students to have multiple exposures to new knowledge and promote the retention of this knowledge in long-term memory and deeper understanding. Students will also use mathematical games to apply and build up their fluency skills.
