Principal's Report

JAPANESE FESTIVAL DAY
The kids love this day, and Friday’s event was no exception. A big well done to Mrs Cray and Mrs Morgan who put a lot of thought and effort into planning and running such a successful day. And thank you to parents and carers who supported the kids with costumes and cash for the Japanese Shop, helping them to get in the spirit of the day.
For many years our school has run a quality Japanese program, exposing students to Japanese language and culture and the Japanese Festival Day is a natural extension of that, as is the Japan trip, which will see a group of 5-6 students spend 9 days in Japan later this year.
MOTHER’S DAY
We wish all mums a happy Mother’s Day on Sunday. There are several things happening at school this week in the lead up to this day, which is all part of encouraging our kids to be thoughtful and the importance of showing gratitude. It’s always nice to see the excitement in the room at the Mother’s Day Stall as the kids decide what to purchase for mum.
And of course we have our Mother’s Day Breakfast celebrations later this week at each campus and expect a large number of mums to attend.
BOOK FAIR
Well done to Kim Dargaville for organising and running another successful Book Fair. This year Kim received a lot of help from Imogen Ritchie…thanks Imogen. Our Book Fairs are a great way of promoting a love of books and reading to our students, whilst raising valuable funds (in the form of books) to keep our library stocked with contemporary books.
A big thank you to the many parents that supported this event.
SCHOOL PHOTOS
It’s a military like operation at school photos time, and the office team had everything organised and each class did their thing and got the photos done without a fuss. On leaving, the MSP (Master School Portraits Team) made a point of commenting on how easy it was to work with our staff and students, which was nice to hear.
Thank you to everyone that has ordered photos through Compass. For those that haven’t, you can still purchase photos via the portal. Alternatively, you can call the MSP office directly on 5333 5577 and place an order over the phone.
A late fee will apply to orders that are made after initial orders have been sent to the printing lab, so don’t delay if you are planning to place an order.
We expect the photos to arrive in 3 to 4 weeks.
INDUSTRIAL ACTION UPDATE
Yesterday schools received a message from the department announcing that proposed stop work action has been suspended for 2 weeks. At this stage, it’s unclear what that means for our region, with a half day stop work planned for the morning of May 21. However, it does suggest that the government and AEU may reach an agreement sooner rather than later. We have our fingers crossed and will keep you posted.
