Glen Eira Storytelling Festival - June & July 2026

The Glen Eira City Council Storytelling Festival is back, running from 18th June to 5th July 2026 across libraries, local venues, Rippon Lea Estate and cinemas. There is a wonderful lineup of events designed especially for children and families.

The Kids and Family program includes three events your children will love. The Jungle Book Show! on 28th June at Elsternwick Library brings Mowgli's jungle adventure to life through music, storytelling and imagination. Fairytale Cookbook on 29th June at Glen Eira Town Hall invites children to create a brand-new fairytale on the spot with Impro Melbourne, where their own ideas shape a magical, laugh-filled story. And on 2nd July, the Multilingual Storytelling Showcase at Carnegie Library celebrates stories from around the world through rhythm, movement and voice - a beautiful experience for our diverse community.

Events like these bring literacy to life in a way that textbooks simply can't. Seeing stories told through performance, music and improvisation helps children understand that storytelling is everywhere, and can spark a lasting love of reading, writing and imaginative thinking.

Beyond the kids' program, the broader festival features an immersive murder mystery with high tea at Rippon Lea Estate, crime writers creating a novel live on stage, and a comedy show from 95-year-old performer Liz Hicklin - a wonderful reminder to children that creativity has no age limit.

We encourage families to explore the full program and make a special outing of it!
