News from the Art Room
Another busy term is under way in the art room. Thank you to all those who have donated materials in recent weeks. If you have any of the following please send it along as we will put it to good use in the art room
-coloured wool
-foam of varying shapes and sizes
-corrugated cardboard
-bubble wrap
-wire coat hangers
-coloured pool noodles
-hay bales (this is a long shot!)
-empty open doll house (see picture)
We have plenty of glass jars and shoe boxes and do not require any more of these for the time being.
This term is a mixed bag across all levels…
Preps will be using modeling clay in the first few weeks to create plasticine letter portraits, focusing on fine motor skills and various sculpting techniques.
Year 1 and 2 students will be excited to have a go with the new colourful embroidery needles. We will be exploring how to thread a needle independently and learning basic running stitch - this follows on from their paper weaving experiences during their prep year.
Year 3 students will be designing three dimensional landscapes and using a variety of clay and plasticine to create a realistic foreground to complement their chosen landscape.
Year 4 students will put their sculpting skills to good use to create some special gifts for our newest little preps in 2027. With a focus on using art for the greater good of others, students will enjoy seeing the joy that others get from their art works.
Year 5 students are designing and entering their artwork into the 2027 Enlighten Festival. Winning entries will feature on a projection at Parliament House next year to help celebrate 100 years of Parliament in Canberra.
Year 6 students commence work on their legacy piece - skate decks make their debut at St Pat’s and will feature at this year’s graduation. We are excited to share these finished pieces with you early in December.
Looking forward to another busy and colourful term in the art room!
