Night of Music

The Night of Music concert was so special

Thank you to Margaret and her team for supporting our students to be able to perform to such an outstanding level!

The Heidelberg Orchestras generously invite the IPS Corelli Strings, Choir and Orchestra to perform in their annual Night of Music concert. Here is what some of the performers have written about the event.

On Saturday night the Corelli strings went to Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar to play in the night of music. We played the songs, “Scooter Ride”, a fast energetic song, then we performed “Sad Movie”, a song that’s very slow and sad. For our final piece, we played “Chinese Street Festival”, another fast energetic song, with bow taps and nice festive music. I was nervous at first, but I thought we played really well in the end and I felt very proud of myself.

On Saturday the 5th of September the IPS strings groups and IPS choir performed in the Night of Music. I performed in Corelli strings; it was such an exciting night. It was also a great opportunity and so much fun. The Corelli strings played three pieces called, Scooter ride, Sad movie and Chinese street festival. I enjoyed listening to the IPS orchestra, Junior strings of Banyule, and Robertson String Orchestra play. It made me wonder if I’ll be able to play as well as that one day. I think the performers really enjoyed the night and so did the audience. A huge thankyou to Margaret, Liz, our strings and choir teachers, and other teachers for making this night possible:)

The Night of Music is a musical night at the Ivanhoe Girls Grammar auditorium. For me I think it’s one of my favourite nights of the year. Lots of orchestras and musical groups perform including the IPS orchestra and choir and the JSB (Junior Strings of Banyule). This year the choir performed 4 songs: “Blackbird”, “Naughty”, “Adiemus” and “Dynamite”. The IPS Orchestra performed 3 pieces: “Kabuki Dance”, “Conquistador”, “How to train your dragon” and the JSB performed many more too. Behind the performances are weeks of practice and effort. Overall it’s a wonderful experience.

On a Saturday night the Choir, Corelli strings and Orchestra went to Ivanhoe Girls Grammar to perform at the Night of Music. When I went up I felt a bit nervous but gradually I became relaxed in the end. After we performed we went back to the audience seats to watch the JSB, (Junior Strings of Banyule), RSO (Roberson Strings Orchestra) and the choir. Overall I enjoyed the Night of Music because you get to practice going in front of a big group of people and listen to all the songs the performers have been learning to go in front of a big audience and I am looking forward to going next year to the Night of Music.~ Henry J 4K

On Sat the 5th September, we attended the Night of Music where many kids performed from IPS. There were varieties of stringed instruments and the beautiful voices of the choir. The choir opened with “Dynamite” then followed by “Naughty”. Finally singing the sweet “Blackbird” and “Adiemus” accompanied by the JSB. The orchestra of IPS played many breathtaking songs from the deep tune of the double bass to the high sound of the violins. They opened with “Conquistador” and then followed by “Kabuki Dance” and then to wrap it up “How to train your dragon”. It was an amazing night listening to the performers play and sing.

Hi, I'm Tennyson and I play double bass in the school orchestra.

On Saturday 5th September, the IPS Orchestra, Corelli Strings and the IPS choir went to Ivanhoe Girls Grammar to perform in the Night of Music. It was a night of wonderful music and adventurous songs, and it was a thrilling experience for those involved. 

The Orchestra played three pieces: Conquistador, Kabuki Dance and This is Berk (from How to Train a Dragon). 

This was my fourth Night of Music, and this year I was more excited than nervous. I like the Night of Music because it’s an important performance with a big audience and I think that the songs Margaret chooses are fun to play. 

I really enjoyed my last Night of Music and I will miss it next year.
