Welcome to IPS

R U OK? Day

The school was awash in sea of yellow today as IPS students recognised R U OK? Day. 

Our students participated in activities throughout the day that promoted kindness, empathy and inclusion.  Students learnt more about their own emotional awareness and those of others and understanding that it is ok to ask for help when needed.  

Australia's national day of action that reminds us of the importance of checking in with the people around us. By simply asking, "Are you OK?", listening without judgement and encouraging support when needed, we can help others feel seen, valued and connected.

Not just for today, but every day at IPS, we strive to foster a caring, inclusive and supportive school community where everyone feels they belong.

Choir Performance at Assembly

The IPS choir performed two pieces at assembly on Monday morning.  They were outstanding!  Their first piece - 'Blackbird' had the audience enthralled but their second piece - 'Naughty' was so entertaining that we added to the list of music for the school bell!

We were blown away with the standard of their performance!

House Lunch & Footy Colours Day

Footy Colours Day is Fight Cancer Foundation’s national community fundraising event which asks participants to host an event at their workplace, school, club or home and wear their favourite footy colours for kids with cancer.

This year at IPS we will be combining this great event with our end of term house lunch. Students are encouraged to wear their team colours be it footy, netball, soccer, cricket, basketball or otherwise.

The house lunch will be open to all community members; it’s happening on the last day of term 3 from 1.30pm, you can either bring a cash donation to school or donate directly via the QR code that is on the posters that you will see around school.

Mr Pearce will once again be our master of ceremonies and our grade 6 sports captains will be running some competitions on the day, stay tuned for more information!

PFA Upcoming Events

Trivia Night and Bingo Nights have been organised by the PFA.  Not just any old Trivia or Bingo Night, extra special, re-invented and revamped events that are guaranteed to be fun along with a Silent Auction!  

Trivia Night: Friday 23rd October at Ivanhoe East Bowls Club.

Bingo Night: Saturday 21st November at West Ivanhoe Football Club.

Spring Holiday Program at IPS

2027 Grade 6 Uniform

2026 Night of Music

Last Saturday night I was privileged to be able to attend the Ivanhoe Primary School “night of music” that was held at the performing arts Centre at Ivanhoe girls Grammar School.

The concert featured the junior strings of banyule, the Robertson string Orchestra and of course our wonderful musicians that make up our Ivanhoe Primary School Corelli strings, the IPS choir and of course our very own School Orchestra.

Ably conducted by our wonderful maestro Margaret Butcher, along with all our wonderful strings teachers,  accompanied on the piano by Victoria Konya we were treated to various musical items  including Scooter ride, dynamite, conquistador and the kabuki dance.

Speaking with Margaret and Liz Bonetti prior to the Performance I was reminded how brave our young musicians are to be able to perform in front of so many people in a rather imposing auditorium. While many students are perfectly comfortable in this space many others overcome personal fears and anxieties in order to perform for us. 

Personally, I could not be more proud of our students/your children.

We are so pleased to be able to continue this collaboration with  IGGS (thank you Marjorie) and more so pleased that so many of our students choose to dedicate themselves to strings and choir and a general love of music.

Ivanhoe Primary School is a wonderful school for so many reasons from our music, sports, Italian, arts, academic and well-being programs we all work together as a community in the best interests of every child that attends our school.

Having been away from the school while my leg mends, attending the Night of Music allowed me to see our school community through fresh eyes and reinforces my opinion that our school is a truly great State School.

Finally

As we recognise RUOK? Day today and reflect on the importance of being inclusive, caring and supportive of one another, I wanted to share a heartwarming story about belonging, kindness and selflessness.

Over the past few weeks, Rob, the father of Leighton Pearce and Lisa Cascun, wanted to find a way to give back to our community and, in particular, to IPS. The family has a wonderful historical connection to our school, withfour generations of the family having attended IPS —from their grandmother, their mother, to Leighton and Lisa, Lisa's children and now their Leighton's children.

Rob had noticed that the roses at the entrance to our school were not looking their best and decided that the garden was in need of some rejuvenation. He spent days carefully removing the tired roses and a multitude of weeds before selecting and planting a beautiful collection of new rose plants.

One of the new varieties Rob chose is particularly special. ‘No Surrender’ was developed in recognition of the Rats of Tobruk, adding an extra layer of meaning to this thoughtful contribution to our school.

What started as a simple idea to give something back has resulted in a beautiful entrance to our school that will be enjoyed by our whole community for years to come.

Thank you, Rob, for your thoughtfulness, kindness and generosity, and for the many hours of hard work you put into making our school entrance look so beautiful. Your contribution is a wonderful reminder that belonging to a community is about more than simply being part of it — it is about caring for it and giving back.
