Welcome to our second newsletter - the term is certainly progressing quickly!
NAPLAN commenced this week for all schools in NSW, and I want to extend my congratulations to our Year 7 and Year 9 students for their exemplary conduct during the assessments. It is commendable to see our students approach these important tests with focus and determination. The Numeracy assessments will take place on Monday, and make-up sessions will be held next week for any students who may need them. I would also like to acknowledge the tremendous effort that goes into coordinating NAPLAN. A big thank you goes to our NAPLAN team of Mr Woodrow, Mr Marshman, Mr Ryan, Miss Green, and Mr Preece.
I am pleased to report that our students continue to thrive and progress through our Positive Merit system. Many students are moving up through the levels, demonstrating their commitment to our school values and contributing positively to our learning environment. We encourage parents and carers to engage in conversations with their children about the number of positives they have accumulated. Discussing these accomplishments can motivate students to strive for even more positives and reinforce the importance of good behaviour and trying your hardest. You can also see how many positives your child has through the parent portal.
Thank you to Ms Olive and the Support faculty for organising the recent Come Try Athletics day in Tamworth. This event provided our students with a unique opportunity to participate in a variety of athletic events in a safe and non-competitive environment. While it was a long day, the experience was incredibly rewarding for all involved. Students had the chance to try their hand at multiple track and field disciplines, allowing them to explore new interests and develop their skills.
Also, a big thank you to Mr Clay and Mr Douglas for organising the recent Science and Engineering Challenge in Inverell. This event provided our students with an excellent opportunity to engage in hands-on learning experiences that fostered creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork. As expected, our students conducted themselves exceptionally well and represented THS with pride.
Finally, our Formal Assembly will be occurring on Thursday 27th March 10am. This event is an important occasion for our school community as we celebrate the achievements of our students and recognise their hard work and dedication throughout the term. We will also be inducting our new SRC. Award recipients will be notified in advance, and we encourage as many families as possible to attend this special assembly.
