What's on at school!

Here is a wrap up of some highlights from the last week of Term 1!

Year 8 Music students worked on their performance piece, with many students playing their instrument for the first time!

Year 10 Foods students baked delicious raspberry and cream cheese Danish pastries, using pastry and jam they prepared in earlier lessons.

Year 10 Science Plus students went on a virtual tour of the Stawell Underground Physics Lab, gaining a rare insight into Australia’s first dark matter experiment.

Textiles students completed their book covers after working through the full design process and have now begun planning their quilt projects for Term 2.

Year 11 Psychology students completed a dissection looking at parts of the brain.

Student Leaders on the Air

Last term, some of our student leaders, Charlie, Grady, and Poppy, had the exciting opportunity to visit the MixxFM studio and record radio ads for our upcoming Open Day! They did an amazing job - perhaps a future in radio is calling their name?! Tune in over the next few weeks this week to hear some familiar voices on air. Thank you to the team at 101.3 Mixx FM for their support and for giving our students the chance to create these fantastic broadcasts.

You're amazing Ted!

Check out the article from the Herald Sun article featuring our amazing Year 10 student Ted J, who’s taking incredible new strides with the help of robotic legs and the support of the Good Friday Appeal! Horsham teen Ted arrived into the world with no shin bones, knees and ankles, but he’s never let that slow him down. All Stars Academic Competition

Congratulations to Year 8 student, Archie H, who competed in the inaugural ICAS All Stars Competition during the school holidays! Archie, along with Elizamary J, Alan K, and Justin L, qualified to compete against the top ICAS achievers in the state. ICAS (International Competitions and Assessments for Schools) is a globally recognised program that challenges students in subjects including English, Mathematics, Science and more, helping them develop advanced thinking and problem-solving skills beyond the classroom.

At St Brigid’s College, we proudly offer opportunities like ICAS through our extra-curricular and academic extension programs, supporting students who want to push their learning further. Well done to all our All Stars!

Project Compassion

There was much excitement as the Easter Raffle, organised by the Year 12 cohort, was drawn! The sale of raffle tickets, combined with the proceeds from Pancake Day, raised an incredible $1,053! This money will be donated to Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion.

Thank you to everyone who contributed and to our Year 12 students for leading this initiative with dedication and enthusiasm. Their efforts beautifully reflect our College values, fostering community spirit and making a meaningful impact.

Celebrating our Young Achievers!

We're super proud of St Brigid's College students, Christopher B, James B and Hannah P, who raced in various events at the recent Stawell Gift!

James won his 100m heat and finished 15th overall out of 96 athletes. He also placed 13th in the 400m event, against 150 competitors. Christopher came second in his 100m heat, placing 16th overall. Chris also ran in the 800m event, placing 13th out of 105 athletes. Hannah won her 100m heat, reaching the semi-finals where she placed 7th, and finished 15th overall against 96 competitors.

Congratulations to all three on their amazing achievements!

ANZAC Day

Last week, St Brigid's College students represented our College at Anzac Day services in Horsham and Murtoa. They laid a wreath and paid their respects to those who have served, and continue to serve, in war, conflict, and peacekeeping operations.

We will remember them. Lest we forget.

Year 9 Eco Camp

Year 9 students capped off Term 1 with an exciting few days on their year level Eco Camp. Highlights included a visit to the Werribee Open Range Zoo, water sports, and mountain bike riding. Staying at Eumeralla Scout Camp in Anglesea, students also explored locations along the Great Ocean Road. The camp was a memorable way for the cohort to connect with nature, and with their peers.
