Junior School News

All the ways we learn about shape and symmetry, by Jasper.

We learn about shapes with rubber bands and from Mrs Smith. We use ipads. We use our hands. Squares and trapeziums and rectangles have 4 sides, triangle has 3 sides, pentagon has 5 sides and hexagon has 6 sides. A triangle, circle, rectangle and square has symmetry. A deer has antlers and they have symmetry. A moth and a butterfly has symmetry.

Science term! What a hit it has been. Sienna our pre service teacher has done an extraordinary job at delivering a fun squence of investigations. 

The latest experiment was around insulation to keep water inside a cup (which had holes) and the quickest way to melt an ice cube. Sienna kept a small secrert up her sleeve and used her hot tea to melt the cube - should have seen the kids faces! 

4/5/6 Science "Eggsperiments"

Last Friday, Class 4/5/6 brought in some structures from home that they made for science. Their aim was to make an "egg house" for a raw egg that would support it not to break when thrown from a high place. The students climbed on top of the playground with their buddy and threw their structure into the air, onto a wooden board. After the students collected their eggs to see if they would crack, they analysed what made their structure supportive or what they would do differently next time. We all had a lot of fun and the Prep/ 1 buddies drew beautiful pictures of the event. Thank you to the parents who helped the students to make their structure. We had some very clever ideas.
