Grade 1 & 2

Term 3 - Week 4

We have had a wonderful beginning to Term 3 and all the children have settled in well with learning, playing and participating together. We also welcome back Mrs Bush from her wonderful holiday in Vietnam and say a big ‘thank you’ to Mrs Haase for teaching and supporting Mrs Bush’s children throughout this time.

Our Inquiry Unit for Term 3 is about identifying celestial objects, describing patterns they observe in the sky and recognising their place in space. Along with the Discovery Centres, Literacy units and Inquiry, the children have definitely been immersed in and enjoyed the theme of ‘Space’. During Literacy, we looked at Information Texts called Rockets and Our Solar System and then  biographies about Neil Armstrong and A Computer Called Catherine. This week we read the book called Storm, written by the meteorologist Jane Bunn.

We’ve been to the St Brigid’s production of ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. The children thoroughly enjoyed it.

The concept for our RE unit in Term 3 is ‘Wisdom’. For young children wisdom is about making the right decisions, formed by religious traditions, world views and an understanding of right and wrong. We read the story called, ‘The Smartest Giant in Town’ and looked at all the kind and wise choices he made. Micah was a prophet, a messenger from God, who spoke to people about making wise choices- to do justice, to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God. One way we can show this is to help our common home, our earth. We made wise choices on how we can save water, like shorter showers and turn off the taps.

We wish you all a wonderful Term Three and look forward to working with you and the children.
