Principal's Update

Dear Families,

Today, we had the strange occurrence of a range of silly socks appearing at school. While there was a lot of laughter and delight in checking out each other's socks, we also need to remember the 'why'  we are doing this.

Tomorrow, Saturday, August 8th, is the feast of Mary McKillop. Mary was born into poverty as the child of Scottish immigrants who began work as a governess in Penola, South Australia. What she noticed around her were children in need. Children who were unclean, undernourished, living in abject poverty with very little hope or dreams for their future. 

With very little herself, Mary started a school for these children and continued to hold the Church accountable to see these children and do something for them. She was declared a Saint in 2010.

Mary's mantra was, "Never see a need without doing something about it."

This is what our school did this week through our Gifting Liturgy. Our local Christian Emergency Food Centre reaches out to those in our local community; our donations of food and toiletries are Mary's mantra in action. Thank you to all families who saw that need and donated. Bev from the centre expressed her genuine thanks.

We are proud of the way in which our children recognise the needs of others and are growing to be compassionate and caring humans.

Thanks, everyone, for your continued patience while we work around the busyness of our building project. We are building something amazing. 

As I write this, I continue to count myself so lucky to be part of this beautiful community.
