What a fantastic start to the year our Grade 1 students have made! 🙂 They have settled into new routines with confidence, shown kindness to one another, and demonstrated a real enthusiasm for learning. We are already proud of the way they are listening, participating, and giving things a go - well done to all our Grade 1s for such a positive beginning.
We know your children are adjusting to being back at school and the new expectations of being in Year 1 - so they may be weary at the end of the day. If getting them to chat about their day is a challenge, consider some of these questions (instead of the usual How was your day?), to spark conversation:
These kinds of questions can give you great insight into both classroom learning and playground friendships.
The Year 1 teaching team is very much looking forward to connecting with families at next week’s Parent Teacher Interviews. We value these conversations and appreciate the opportunity to work together to support your child’s learning and wellbeing over the next four terms.
Year 5 students and staff will soon be walking to the Newport Library for an excursion. We will be leaving at 10.30am, returning around 12pm. Families are required to please process the 2026 Permissions and Agreements on the Compass parent portal to complete the local excursion permission for their child to be able to attend. Please contact the office if you have any questions.
Birthdays are special and we know that many students at Newport Lakes Primary School love to celebrate their birthday with their classmates, and some families even choose to send along something from home.
Small individual treats for all class members are acceptable such as cupcakes, honey joys, chocolate crackles, or fruit skewers. Please ensure all treats are nut free and check if any other allergies are present in your child’s class.

Alternatively, a small gift such as an item of stationery (stickers, erasers, pencils, stamps etc.) to reduce the amount of sugary food brought into the classroom is also welcomed.

Please do not bring lollipops, lolly bags, ice-creams, or whole cakes that need to be cut up and distributed.

If your child has allergies, please provide the school/class teacher with a selection of allergy-friendly treats from home to be given to your child when a birthday is being celebrated.
Any parent who does not want their child to receive birthday based treats must let the school/class teacher know and also have the option of providing an alternative treat for their child.
