Cultural Connections Program

Traditional Art of Weaving

We are excited to continue our Cultural Connections program this term every Thursday morning, bringing together our Aboriginal boys from Year 7 to Year 10. Richard Gilbert, the Aboriginal Education Officer from Narrandera Public School, also joins us with the Year 6 Aboriginal boys, fostering a smooth and inclusive transition from primary to high school.

This term, the boys have been learning the traditional art of weaving, working together and by the end of the term, the boys will create two traditional styled fish nets. The boys are thoroughly enjoying the experience, actively engaging with the craft and deepening their connection to Aboriginal culture. It’s wonderful to see them embracing this opportunity to learn and share their heritage in a supportive environment.

Massive thank you to Richard for guiding the boys and for sharing his knowledge and experience, even I’m learning new skills with weaving and culture, so big thanks to Richard. Thank you to Nev and Gary for being a part of this amazing program as well.
