Melbourne Camp in a Day

Year 9 Community Challenge

All of the activities were so fun and I loved getting to experience the city with my friends and try new things. I learnt a lot at the old Melbourne Gaol and the view at the Eureka Skydeck was amazing. All of the artwork in ARTVO and Hosier Lane as well as around the streets of Melbourne was so cool, and it was really fun being able to go shopping, eat good food and have fun hanging out with friends. It was really good to get out of my comfort zone and try new things I wouldn't have otherwise.

Melbourne Sky Deck and The Edge

Mirboo North Year 9s all went to Eureka Skydeck. Only some did the Edge experience, it was a very thrilling experience, some even feeling sick when being at the very top, but it was so worth it for the spectacular views. We were on the 88th floor of the building and 330 meters in the air the edge experienced is where you hang of the building in a glass box 330 meters above ground.

ARTVO

All year nines at Mirboo North went to ArtVo on Friday the 21st .  ArtVo  is an immersive art gallery filled with 3D artwork and trick art.  You experience the art through touching and interacting with the artworks, making it look like that you are a part of the art by simply striking a pose in front of it.it was a very fun group activity and I enjoyed myself and taking photos of me and my friends.

Old Melbourne Gaol and Melbourne Central

On Friday 21st June we went to Melbourne for a day camp. Whilst we were on this camp, we went to the old Melbourne Gaol. This was my favourite part because I got to learn lots of history from this place. For example – there was this guy who wanted to burn his house and business down for insurance money however his 4-year-old son was in the house and burnt to death. He didn’t realise this until the house was finished burning and opened the door to discover his son.  The guy was sent to jail to be hung. Along with many more stories I learnt on the day.

Ice Skating

Last week our year 9s went on the Melbourne Day Camp. At the end of the day, we visited the ice-skating rink, and the instructors told us about the rules and offered us other activities if we didn’t want to do ice skating, like watching the ice hockey game that was going on. After they explained everything, we all went to get our skates and a helmet so we could get onto the ice. Surprisingly, a lot of people were amazingly good at it while others were just starting to get the hang of it. Overall, it was a really fun experience and I’m glad we all had this opportunity, thanks to Mrs Burke, Mrs Kelly, Mr Davey, and Mr Andrews.

Rock Climbing

On the 21st of June half of the year nines went rock-climbing. When we got there, we got taught how to be professional rock climbers. Once we got taught, we had a practice which was really easy and after that we went off and did our own thing. One of the challenges we faced was the wall that had a bump they were really hard. The best thing about the rock-climbing was racing up walls against your friends and beating them.
