Principal's Report

Dear families,

As many of you know, Gerard has now commenced his much-deserved Long Service Leave. We wish him every happiness and safe travels during this special time and look forward to welcoming him back in early Term 4.

These past weeks have been an exciting time for our senior students as they navigate VCE subject selections for 2027. Thank you to the families who have attended information sessions and to the students who have thoughtfully engaged in the process. Subject selection is an important milestone, and it has been wonderful to see students carefully considering pathways, interests, and future aspirations as they make decisions about their senior years.

Planning and preparations are continuing for our Japan Study Tour in September. A parent information evening was held earlier this week, providing families with important details about the upcoming trip. Students have now commenced regular lunchtime sessions where they are exploring cultural considerations, travel expectations, and preparing for the various experiences included in the itinerary. 

One of the great strengths of St Brigid's is our commitment to service and community engagement. Students participating in the new Year 9 Community Service and Passion Project Elective, are developing a deeper understanding of the importance of giving back and making a positive contribution to their community. As part of the program, students have been visiting St Vincent de Paul to support their local work. In addition, our Hands on Learning students and Student Representative Council (SRC) collaborated this week to deliver the Soup Day, raising valuable funds for this worthy organisation. We are incredibly proud of the compassion, generosity, and sense of social responsibility being demonstrated by our young people.

This weekend, our Year 8/9 Sports Academy students will travel to Melbourne to attend the AFL match between St Kilda and Carlton on Sunday night. On Monday, they will visit Moorabbin, home of the St Kilda Football Club, to participate in the Recover Right and Fuel Yourself education programs. These sessions will provide valuable insights into athlete wellbeing, recovery, nutrition, and life in an elite sporting environment.

We are also looking forward to next Friday's Presentation Ball, one of the highlights of our school calendar. This wonderful community event celebrates the growth of our young people and provides an opportunity for families, students, and staff to come together in a spirit of celebration. Please note that Year 11 classes will not operate on the day of the Presentation Ball.

As I step into the role of Acting Principal while Gerard is away, I am looking forward to working closely with our students, staff, and families. I encourage parents and carers to make contact if you have any questions, concerns, or feedback. Strong partnerships between home and school are vital to ensuring the best outcomes for our students, and I welcome the opportunity to connect with members of our school community.
