Prep to Year 3 Swimming Program - Volunteers Required
We are seeking one or two volunteers to assist at a number of upcoming swimming sessions. If you can assist please respond to the current pinned post or the reminder that will be sent tomorrow to parents and carers of the following classes that require greater support.
Morning Sessions
PAC, 1CL, 3SJ - Day 8 - Wednesday, 2nd September 2026, 11:45am to 2:15pm
Afternoon Sessions
We will review the status in a week’s time prior to consideration for cancelling sessions that we are unable to provide enough supervision for.
Primary School Nursing Program
The program is a wonderful opportunity for your child to receive the final free check on their wellbeing. The information was again posted to Prep families on Compass this morning. In Eleanor Caldwell, we have a really warm and engaging health professional who will be able to check on your child’s physical milestones at school.
To date, only just over one-third of families have provided permission for this valuable funded initiative. Please take a moment to consider responding to this opportunity.
FWPS Athletics Carnival - It’s the vibe!
A huge thank you to our students, parents and staff for the wonderful and positive attitude, so ably demonstrated yesterday during our annual senior school Athletics Day at Aberfeldie Sports Track in Moonee Ponds. The sometimes persistent drizzle failed to dampen the enthusiasm, generosity and good humour of the athletes, staff and spectators.
This unique annual event brings the students from years 4, 5 and 6 together offsite and much like our camps program, the day provides students with opportunities to strengthen friendships, demonstrate resilience and simply enjoy learning together outside the classroom. Stratos acknowledged all participants at our after school staff meeting. We will provide a report and share some photos of the day at assembly tomorrow. In particular I wish to acknowledge and appreciate our parent volunteers who attended all day to enable us to meet our adult to student ratios. While the day is first and foremost about participation and enjoyment, results are also recorded to select our team for the Maribyrnong District Athletics Carnival, planned for Tuesday, 8th September at Keilor Sports Track. We anticipate that a substantial team of qualifiers across Year 4 to 6 will travel together to this event with Stratos and a member of the teaching team.

Inform and Empower
Our termly online incursions have been held for Year 1 to Year 6 grades this week or next and for the Prep team, due to be presented in Week 6. The dates and times for each class / team are listed below. All families have or will receive an information flyer that provides an ideal opportunity to discuss the focus at home. As the online world continues to be an important part of children's lives, helping them navigate it safely and responsibly remains a shared priority for us all.

Assembly
Tomorrow’s assembly item will feature 1HL’s assembly presentation along with this week’s Pupil of the Week Awards.
As is our regular practice, gates will be opened straight after recess and visitors are asked to be seated in the Eagle Gymnasium by 2:45pm. Students return to classes when assembly concludes and are dismissed from their classrooms.
Science Week is coming to FWPS
Science Week at FWPS will be a whole school focus next week. We encourage all families to participate in the whole school glider competition. Throughout the week
all classes will be participating in the daily quiz questions. See the pinned Compass post for all the details.
School Winter Disco Event
With appreciation to our marvellous Parents’ Association, in partnership with our office and leadership teams, preparations are well underway for a return of our annual Junior and Senior Disco next Thursday afternoon / evening. We are excited to again host these events - this time in our wonderful new Eagle Building. For ease of planning and organisation we are seeking all families to book their children’s attendance online through Compass Events and clearly many families have taken this opportunity. If you haven’t yet done so, please do it this week, or if you do not plan to attend, please decline the event.
For a quick summary:
For the Senior Disco the arrangements are identical but the times of course differ.
Parent / Carer Opinion Survey
The annual Parent and Carer Opinion Survey is a Department of Education mandated process that seeks feedback on you and your families’ experience of attending your local government school. A specific link will be shared with parents and caregivers on the week starting 17th August. The survey will be open for several weeks and we encourage all families to participate.
Soundgarage / Specialist music concert week
We are also looking forward to using our new Eagle Gymnasium during Week 9 for a return of our annual Music Specialist and Soundgarage (user pays) mini concerts. Look out for information in the next couple of weeks about when the performances will take place during the day and evening.
Best regards,
Brendan
