Book Week

It’s that time of the year! From Monday 24th August we'll celebrate Book Week, and be inspired by the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s 2026 theme, Symphony of Stories. 

To start getting us into the Book Week spirit, we are kicking off with two of our annual competitions, and they are open NOW! 

Competitions

Drawing Competition – Prep to Year 6 

Design the front cover of an adventure book inspired by the theme: Symphony of Stories. Poster size can be A4 or A3. Write your name and class clearly on the entry. All posters are to be handed up to The Office, or your teacher.  One entry per student.

Writing Competition - Years 3 to 6

Write your very own ‘micro story’ inspired by the theme: Symphony of Stories.

Word limit is strictly 150 words maximum. One entry per student. Write your name and class clearly on your entry and hand in to your teacher, The Office or email Miss Nicole at Nicole.Wapling@education.vic.gov.au

Entries close: Wednesday 19th August at 3.30pm

Guess the Number of Book Marks in the Jar Competition

We have a brand new competition this year!  During Book Week you will have the chance to bring a gold coin and guess how many book marks are hiding in the BIG jar.  The correct (or closest) entry wins a prize, whilst also raising money for Reading Out Of Poverty (ROOP).  More details to come.

Wait…there’s more!

From the 24th August we have a whole week of exciting activities to celebrate reading, inspire creativity, and to just have a whole lot of fun. Here’s a sneak peek at our PMPS Book Week events...

Dress Up Day and Parade

Monday 24th August – parade in the gym at 9.15am (parents/carers welcome)

Prep to Year 6 students are invited to bring a gold coin donation and come dressed as their favourite book character. Their donation will go to a very worthy charity, ROOP (Reading Out Of Poverty). To add to the excitement, we’re making it a competition.  The class double that collects the most money, wins a class prize!  We’ll also hold our annual fun, school-wide parade in the gym, with prizes for the most creative costumes. Parents, are welcome to come and watch, please use the bleacher seating in the gym.

Online Mary Martin Book Fair 

PMPS Fundraiser

Wednesday 12th to 23rd August  

Start your book shopping early from the comfort of your own home! Simply click this link to the Mary Martin Online Book Fair from next Wednesday 12th August, and for every purchase over $30, you’ll go in the draw to win tickets to the first ever Melbourne Children’s Book Festival, and have a go at the Golden Ticket raffle when collecting your books at school. All this, and you’ll be raising money for new books for the Library too.

Onsite Mary Martin Book Fair 

Monday 24th to Wednesday 26th August, 3:30 - 4pm

Our annual onsite Book Fair follows and will be open in the Library from 3:30 to 4pm. Come collect your online order, or come browse and buy on the day. Plus, every purchase gets you a chance to win a Golden Ticket mystery prize.

Live Theatrical Performance 

Thursday 27th August

Books to Life return with a live performance based on one of CBCA's top book titles Being Indy. It is always a favourite with the students.

Whole School Book Trivia Competition

The whole school Book Trivia Competition is back, where classes compete against each other with their amazing knowledge of books.  Exciting prizes awarded to the winning classes, with lots of giggles to be had and book knowledge to be shared. 

Daily Storytelling & Classroom Activities

Throughout the week, our students will enjoy daily storytelling sessions and thrilling classroom activities. We can’t wait to celebrate the magic of books with you, whilst also inspiring a life-long love of reading.
