Classroom Reports
This fortnight's Classroom Reports provide families with a glimpse into the learning taking place across our classrooms and specialist programs over the past two weeks.
We hope these reports give you a better understanding of what your child has been learning at school and provide a great conversation starter at home.
Foundation
(PD & PG)
Literacy
This fortnight we have been exploring non-fiction texts and what they contain. Students have been learning facts about different animals such as the kangaroo and the bottle-nosed dolphin. We have begun recording learned facts about these creatures to author a non-fiction text of our own.
Phonics
This fortnight we have been learning about the Floss Rule with double letters /ff/, /ll/, /ss/ and /zz/, as well as the /ch/ digraph. Students focused on reading and writing words with three and four sounds and continued to consolidate our knowledge of rhyming words, identifying words with the same beginning sound (alliteration), and syllables. Each day, we practised writing a dictation sentence using the sounds we have learned.
Mathematics
This fortnight we have been focusing on adding single digit numbers using our knowledge of part-part-whole. We have begun exploring strategies to help us solve problems such as drawing pictures, using physical objects, or using a number line.
Fire Ed
This week we met some incredible local firefighters. They showed us some safety tips and the equipment they use. We learned about safe meeting places at our homes to ensure we remain safe in the event of an emergency. They will be back again soon for an exciting peek at one of their fire trucks.

Literacy
Over the past fortnight, the Year 1/2’s have been eagerly developing their own Superhero Minibeast. In Reading students have been exposed to texts that help them to visualise story settings appropriate for a minibeast to live. Teachers used Superworm as a mentor text to assist students to brainstorm ideas for these settings. During Writing lessons, students were able to use their prior knowledge from Inquiry and Reading to help them create an original Superhero minibeast. These characters have specific features and adaptations to help them survive. Students are revisiting the importance of planning a beginning, middle and end for their narratives and are borrowing ideas from texts they already know.
Mathematics
Year 1 and 2 students have been investigating 2D and 3D shapes in their environment. They completed hands- on activities to find out how many sides, faces, edges and vertices certain shapes have. We had fun making minibeast homes out of wooden shapes and identified the features of the shapes they used in their creation. We are now beginning to explore our multiplicative thinking unit. We are currently using groups and arrays to illustrate multiplication facts.
Inquiry
Students are highly engaged in our Term 3 topic- Minibeasts! So far, we have discussed what we already know about minibeasts and engaged in viewing and reading short video clips, stories and posters that support us to increase our topic knowledge. Students have identified specific features of minibeasts and are currently classifying minibeasts into 6 categories: insects, myriapod, arachnid, mollusc, crustacean and annelid.

Year 5/6

Mathematics – Algebra
This week in Mathematics, our Year 5/6 students have been exploring algebra. They have been identifying number patterns, using rules to solve problems, and learning how letters can represent unknown numbers.
Through hands-on activities and mathematical discussions, students are building their problem-solving and reasoning skills while developing a strong understanding of algebraic thinking. We have been impressed by the persistence and mathematical thinking students have shown as they tackle new challenges!
Geelong High – Hadestown Dress Rehearsal
Some of our Year 5/6 students had the wonderful opportunity to attend the dress rehearsal of Hadestown at Geelong High School. Students were thoroughly engaged throughout the performance, enjoying the incredible singing, dancing, and talented cast.
