Year 9/10 Football & Volleyball with Leighland

Last Monday, our Year 9/10 boys had the opportunity to engage in friendly competition with Leighland students, playing a game of football. Our students displayed excellent sportsmanship, donning Devonport Football Club guernseys as they took to the field at Byard Park. A handful of our students who play football outside of school enjoyed the opportunity to display their skill. What was even better to see was how these students stood out as leaders throughout the day, including, encouraging and guiding teammates who were less familiar with the game. Our team managed to hold a narrow margin throughout the game, getting the win by one goal when the final whistle blew. We were extremely blessed by community members, volunteers from Devonport Football Club, who cooked lunch for the boys to enjoy together after the game. Our students had a great day of team sport and had excellent interactions and connections with Leighland students.

Our Year 9/10 girls also joined students from Leighland for a fun afternoon of volleyball. Our students who have been participating in the volleyball option class competed in a competitive match against Leighland's team, demonstrating great teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the game. Although the result didn't go their way, the girls embraced the challenge, developed new volleyball skills, and gained valuable experience in a competitive setting.

The remaining students enjoyed participating in a social game of volleyball, where they had the opportunity to learn the rules of volleyball, build their confidence, practise their skills, and encourage one another. The afternoon finished with everyone sharing hot chips for lunch, providing a great opportunity to connect with students from both schools, and reflect on an enjoyable afternoon of sport.
