Student Leaders

Assembly Presentation by our Grade 5 Student Voice Leaders and School Captains:
Bullying. No Way! Week
Good morning, everyone,
Last week, our Wonga Park students and teachers recognized Bullying No Way Week.
The purpose of this week was to raise awareness about bullying and, most importantly, to remind us that the things we say and do, matter. Throughout the week, we focused on one important message: small acts can make a big difference.
Sometimes we might think that bullying is only about big or obvious actions. However, we have learnt that even a small comment can have a lasting impact on another person.
The words we say, the messages we send and the way we treat others can affect how someone feels, even if we don’t realise it at the time.
Something as simple as smiling at someone, saying hello, holding a door open, asking someone if they are okay or including someone who is on their own can completely change that person’s day. These actions might only take a few seconds for us, but they could mean much more to someone else.
As part of Bullying No Way Week, we participated in an online information session with Kids Helpline. This gave us an opportunity to have important conversations about bullying and think about the small actions we can take to help ourselves and others.
We shared our ideas with our peers and responded to different scenarios, thinking carefully about how we might react and what we could do if we see someone being treated unfairly.
Our Grade 5 students also created their own zines and posters to spread awareness about bullying. These included inspirational quotes, messages and drawings designed to remind others that kindness matters and that even the smallest actions can have a big impact.
One of the biggest messages we have taken from this week is that we all have the power to make things better. You don’t have to be a teacher, a school captain or a Student Voice Leader to make a difference. Every person in our school has the ability to help create a community where people feel safe, included and valued.
However, as School Captains and Student Voice Leaders, we recognise that we have an extra responsibility to continue spreading these messages. Bullying No Way Week might have finished, but the message shouldn’t finish with it.
Kindness isn’t something we practise for just one week. It is something we can choose every single day.
So, our challenge to everyone in our school community is simple:
- Keep noticing the people around you.
- Keep saying hello.
- Keep including others.
- Keep thinking before you speak. Keep standing up for people who need support.
- And keep choosing kindness, even when nobody is watching.
Because when all of us make these small choices, our small actions can create big change.
And finally, we’d like to leave you with one thought: If you can’t find someone being kind, be that person for others.
Thank you.
