Principal Message

Friday 11th October

From the Principal’s Desk

Welcome back to Term 4! It’s wonderful to return to school with the bright, sunny days lifting our spirits. The children were especially excited to be greeted by three beautiful, vibrant new murals—a cuddly koala, a cheeky kookaburra, and a spectacular rainbow lorikeet (inspired by the nesting lorikeets discovered last term). These murals, painted by the incredibly talented local artist Anthony Samargis, have brought even more life and colour to our school grounds.

We have so much to look forward to this term, including our swimming program, transition activities for the year ahead, our community evening, and of course, the much-anticipated Year 6 graduation celebrations. Along with these exciting events, there will be plenty of rich learning opportunities for all students!

We’re thrilled to announce that the construction of the new pirate ship sandpit and junior playground will begin in the week of November 11th. These playgrounds, designed based upon the ideas of our creative and talented students, are something we’re incredibly proud of. The final design concepts are now on display in the corridor outside the library—please take a moment to admire them!

Looking ahead, construction of the Ninja Warrior playground and new climbing equipment at the Tirana Street end of the school is scheduled to commence in February 2025, right after the Christmas holidays. This will be another exciting addition to our school environment, offering more fun and active play spaces for our students.

I’d also like to remind families about car park safety and etiquette. Unfortunately, I was informed by a family that their car was damaged by another vehicle late last term. Please be mindful when driving through the car park, and let's work together to ensure everyone stays safe.

Lastly, our leadership team is currently deep in planning, recruitment and budgeting for 2025. If you are aware that your family will be moving on from Mitcham Primary School next year, we would appreciate being notified as soon as possible to assist us with our planning.

Wishing everyone a lovely weekend ahead!

Warmly,

Erin
