Grade 2

InitiaLit
This week in Comprehension and Fluency lessons students have been introduced to persuasive text features using the text “My Favourite Season”. They have been learning to explain what a persuasive text is and identify the difference between a fact and opinion as well as identifying the author's opinion and reasons in a persuasive text. Students have been given the opportunity to build on their persuasive language by identifying what their favourite season is and what their reasons would be.
In Spelling students have been reviewing split digraphs and discussing how the ‘bossy e’ makes the vow sound long In words such as cake, bike, cute and bone. They have then been able to apply their knowledge with this skill and apply it to 2 syllable words and beyond. They have also engaged in the first Progress Monitoring Test this year to review and show what they understand about vowel spellings so far.
Writing
In the last fortnight, Year 2 have been engaging with the mentor text “The First Scientists” by Corey Tutt. They have been exploring first nations perspectives and the amazing inventions and innovations that have been created by Australia’s First People. Students have been using this knowledge to learn how to write the beginning stages of an information report, editing their drafts to then create a good copy with labelled diagrams to finalise up this mentor text.
Maths
