Swimming Carnival

The Year 7–12 Swimming Carnival was a fantastic day filled with energy, enthusiasm and House spirit. Students competed in a range of events, including the 50m and 25m races, showcasing both skill and determination in the pool. The peg pick-up, tunnel ball and tyre tube relays brought plenty of laughter and excitement, while these novelty events highlighted teamwork across year levels and house pride.

The day concluded with the much-anticipated 4 x 50m year level freestyle relays and the boarders versus day girls relay, which was a thrilling way to finish the carnival. It was wonderful to see students supporting one another throughout the day, with many also enjoying the opportunity to dance, cheer and celebrate together poolside.

Congratulations to Mulhall for taking out the overall Swimming Trophy, and to Ward for being awarded the Spirit Cup in recognition of their outstanding enthusiasm and participation.

A big thank you to all Sports and House Captains for their leadership and organisation, helping to make the day such a success.

Year 2/3 Swimming Carnival

There was a big crowd in attendance at the Norwood Indoor Pool last Friday for our Year 2/3 Swimming Carnival. Every vantage point was taken as parents, grandparents and siblings packed the southern side of the pool, while the northern stand was full of Loreto students – all proudly wearing House colours and with coloured zinc aplenty!

The students had spent the week with Ms Powell and Ms Edwards doing the Water Safety program, so were full of confidence and raring to go by Friday. We have never had so many competitors, and it was great to see a big increase in swimmers opting to do the “full pool” races (25m).

Our young swimmers raced through the freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke events, before several swimmers had a go at butterfly! Plenty of ribbons were won and it was lovely to see classmates excited for their friends, sharing in their special moments.

The day finished with the novelty events – a series of frantic relays with kickboards and rubber tyres. Almost every student jumped in the pool for these events, earning points for their House. The cheering reached a crescendo during these events. Once the splashing had died down, all that was left was to reveal the final scores:

1st Mulhall: 281 points

2nd Barry: 223 points

3rd Ward: 147 points

4th McGrath: 138 points

Mulhall were crowned 2026 champions!

The Spirit Cup was won by Barry for their wonderful display of colour, not to mention their enthusiastic support from the sidelines.

Many thanks to our Loreto teachers for organising the students, marshalling students at the start line and compiling the points. Thanks to Ms Edwards for running the event and to Ms Powell for organising the day.

Our Year 6 Sports Captains and House Captains did a brilliant job at the finish line - judging places, timing races and handing out ribbons. Later in the event, our Year 6s jumped in the pool to help some of the less confident swimmers with their races plus kept the relay teams in order during the novelty events.

Thanks so much to all the family members who attended. You helped to make it a fun and supportive atmosphere for our students.

Well done to all the students who jumped in the pool and who cheered on their House! We hope that you had fun and wish you the best of luck in the Athletics Carnival.

Netball Preliminary Finals

Well done to our Year 7 Gold and Year 6 Maroon teams who enjoyed strong wins in last Friday’s knockout semifinals. The Gold team were in a tight tussle, with scores close at half time before we took control in the second half. The Maroon team led their final from start to finish. Our Yr 7 Blue team went down by 1 goal in their thrilling semifinal, however we have a second chance thanks to finishing on top of the ladder.

All three Loreto teams are in preliminary finals this Friday. As luck would have it, we’re on neighbouring courts at the same time! Emery Road, Campbelltown Netball Courts – 8:30 pm start, Courts 3, 4 & 5. Loreto x3 teams in action – good luck to all!

Harriet’s On Fire

Well done to our tennis team who worked hard to defeat St Andrews last Friday. Riaana and Eleanor came from 0-2 down to win their doubles match 4-2 (never give up!), Elise won her doubles match with Harriet and her singles match. The final rubber was a titanic singles struggle. Harriet and her opponent were playing a high-standard game that ebbed and flowed. With games level and at deuce in the decider, it all came down to one “sudden death” point. The final rally went on and on (it was like watching the French Open!) with neither player giving an inch. Eventually Harriet saw her chance, pouncing on a mishit groundstroke and driving a forehand winner up the line. Game, set, match, Loreto!

Summer Sports Wrapping Up

Well done to our Year 5/6 cricketers who have been playing in the Wednesday afternoon IGSSA competition on Greenhill Road. The organisers have had to increase the size of the boundaries used in our matches, a change known as the “Estelle Rule.”

Our touch football teams have one more round to play with all teams at Pembroke next Tuesday afternoon. It’s been great to see our teamwork develop over the course of the term, as well as our team defence.

Basketball continues through to Week 10 of term. Our Year 3 Loreto Swish basketball team had their highest score for the term on Wednesday, while our Year 4 Slam Dunkers went down by 2 points in a heartstopper.

Volleyball continues through to Week 9 which is a “finals round” for all teams, with 1st vs 2nd, 3rd vs 4th etc.

The Cross Country training sessions have started well on Monday mornings. Our runners are building up their distances under the watchful eye of coaches Millie and Abbey, as we prepare for the Cross Country events and races next term.

Our Junior School athletics program started this week and will run through the autumn.
