The indigenous song we sang is a celebration of country from around Australia. It was written by Jessie Lloyd, who collected local words from elders around the country. You can follow the map as we sing. We sang the name of each city along with the word for 'sing' in that local language. It's a contemporary songline - a call for all Australians to join in song, acknowledge country and celebrate the living languages of this land.
You may have already heard that this year is a production year. This year's show is "SMPPS News" where we explore the events and culture of the school. Each class across the school will dance, we'll have costumes, and some Grade 5 & 6 students will have speaking roles. The Performances will be at the end of Term 3, in September. Parents, information on how you can help your class will come out soon. We'll need lots of parents to collect and keep track of costumes.
Last week, many Grade 5 and 6 students auditioned for a speaking role. Well done to everyone taking a brave step and putting yourself out there. Many of you learned the lines by heart and used lots of expression. We congratulate everyone who auditioned for a role.
